(25,920 posts)I can't believe you'd insult the Tap like that. But I'm sure they'll rise above it, since they're professionals.

Second only to "Dark Side of the Moon", this album was my lullaby on hundreds, if not
thousands of nights.

(21,925 posts)I wish I had something more obscure but frankly this has always been my favorite since the album came out. Unfortunately, I can't find the complete version on youtube.

(12,132 posts)(and I love most all of them) I thought I'd throw in some prog metal
These guys are still classified by most as death metal but I don't buy it. They did start out more that way (I have some of their demos from before their first album in 1990) but even then they were just slightly out of phase with standard death metal.
ETA - another fun fact: Usually, at some point during Cynic concerts Paul Masvidal (singer, lead guitar) will stop for some yoga. He shows everyone how to do some stretches and proceeds to lead everyone in a very relaxing mini-yoga session. It's kind of hilarious to see a couple hundred metal guys in all their leather and spikes and tattoos and mohawks and beer bellies pause the mosh pit and do some yoga stretches. One of my favorite parts of a Cynic show.

(12,132 posts)I saw APLP in a small theater and he introduced the song by saying (paraphrasing) "We had this album and this next song kind of takes up most of the one side so we're just gonna play the whole side..." and it was terrrrrrrrrrrific.

(12,008 posts)I'm a nerd. When all of the other kids were into Nirvana, I was into King Crimson. Prog was basically my life for a fair number of years. Now one of the only things like that I ever listen to is early Genesis (which I didn't listen to much in the 90's, because I was more into the contemporary bands putting out new material).
So, I'm going to cheat and post two that were huge for me about 20 years ago.

(8,352 posts)Well, so many great ones have been shared from ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, etc.
So here are a few more Prog acts that seem to rarely receive the credit they deserve that are definitely favorites of mine.
Kayak - Starlight Dancer
Eloy - Fatal Illusions
Fish - A Gentleman's Excuse Me
Peter Hammill - Betrayed
Le Orme - Amico di ieri
Porcupine Tree - Way out of Here
Saga - Don't Be Late
Mythos - June
Osanna - Milano Calibro 9 which is one of my favorite prog albums.
