Now, let me ask you; if I remember correctly you're a PA or a nurse? Is that right? Looking at your picture up thread, you have kind eyes. I would feel comfortable with you. I'm not comfortable with any other docs etc except my own. I have to be close to death to go to a hospital or urgent care center.
Aristus
(66,316 posts)I'm a PA, a Physician Assistant. I'm fortunate that a lot of my patients express confidence in me that they say they don't feel for MD's. I don't know if they are intimidated by the medical degree or what. I just try to live up to my own expectation of what a PA is: a roll-up-your-sleeves and do good medicine kind of guy.
Please don't wait until you are near death. If you have something going on, have it evaluated. I'm a firm believer in preventive care. - End Of Lecture -
pinboy3niner

Every once in a while I'll have a patient who is a veteran, pinboy3niner. I only get them if they are not, for some reason, eligible for the VA. If they are, I'm required to refer them there. We get some Federal funding for our homeless clinic, and if veterans get care here, it's considered double-dipping.
I tell you, it breaks my heart to see the things they go through. Nobody in this country should be homeless, but especially not veterans...

My brother said 'where'? The cop pointed to me; my brother laughed and said that's no lady that's my sister. Then he reached over and put his arm around me.

And it still blows me away. I get the same attention when I am out for a drive.
However it plays hell with my personal life. It takes a man who is secure in himself to walk by my side without feeling threatened. I studied psychology in college so I am a people watcher.

(53,339 posts)...but I couldn't make myself go out my front door. I'd suppressed so much for so long, without even knowing it, and facing all of that was very scary and threatening. I was unable to do it.
Eventually I had a dramatic psychological catharsis. The kind of thing where, if it happened to someone in church, they would have felt 'reborn.' And I ended up working for a nonprofit group at the Wall for a couple of years. Here's another photo, of me with a friend from that time...

Needless to say, Ginger has spent the last few days limping around, nursing his wounds and reluctantly taking antibiotics for his many flesh wounds.

(5,909 posts)My husband's from Maine--Saco/Old Orchard Beach. We visited his family at Kennebunk Pond a couple years ago--they have land there.

(9,902 posts)I think after the winter we've had, I'd gladly swap states with you!
RiffRandell
(5,909 posts)You can't walk from the house to the car without sweat pouring off you. Our subdivision has a public pool that we go to but the water is so warm it barely cools you off. I have to get in every 5 minutes. Of course we have central air but it gets so hot by May and you don't turn in off until October you get no break on the electricity bill because you have such a small window (no pun intended) where you're not running the air or the heat.
There's so many transplants from Northern states who think I'm nuts because I miss the snow so much.
I just miss NE in general--Friday night fish frys, fried clams, the fall (my favorite season), good pizza and most of all my family.
I think my NE accent (that I thought I never had but everyone down here tells me I do) got stronger because I was hell bent on not picking up a Southern one. No offense to Southerners. My kids don't have it either, and they were both born down here.
Sorry for ranting; it's just nice to talk to a New Englander, and I'm such a New England girl at heart!

I did live for a couple of years in South Florida - what a shit hole, but I loved the weather. I did miss the cheap lobsters right off the boat...and my family. Now, both parents are gone, and it's just my little family (me, hubby, daughter and beasties) and my brother that are left in this state.
We should swap houses as timeshare, lol....you can come up and enjoy the winters, while I go enjoy some summer weather. I have a beautiful house for sale up here - only asking $199k. Less than a mile from the harbor.....Fully restored 1920's Sears Craftsman bungalow, 2k sq. feet.....

I must have had some eggnog for this one.

(36,221 posts)quite a few years ago. I had to look down into a machine that automatically took my picture prior to boarding.
After I was on the ship a couple of days and after a few drinks, I went to one of the desks and asked to see my picture, the professional one they take of you for you to buy. The person behind the desk didn't understand me, and showed me the picture of the one that was taken automatically before boarding.
I had never seen anything so horrid. I couldn't believe it. I was with my aunt and they showed her hers too. Wasn't any better!!!
We laughed our freaking asses off for an entire day. They were so bad. I don't ever think I could describe them. The people behind the desk were in fits too!

We were wondering why the people behind the desk thought we wanted to buy those pics!!! LOL

Even then I sensed that hot chicks dig cool cars, but all I had was that old Ranch Wagon and no gas money.

And I've gained probably 50-60 pounds since then. I'm at a normal weight now. (I still look skinny.) Extreme B-12 definciency makes you lose your appetite...

(5,909 posts)No lie---yesterday my husband was working on one of our computers and he said he needed a dongle (he really did). We both laughed.
Thanks for clarifying you weren't flipping me off---I would have been extremely offended.

(80,708 posts)Really put lie to the idea that there was this massive universal support for Bushco and their agenda. 1.2 Million people on the Mall.
Only slightly dampened when the media mostly ignored the whole thing; CNN spent the day talking about Estee Lauder and scouring NASCAR events trying to find the elusive "Bush NASCAR voter".
Anyway, sorry I can't out myself more. I appreciate your thread. Y'all are some fine looking folks.

But the most important one, the last one, has been what makes it all worthwhile. She wears her 60 years better than most.
Better than I do mine, that's for sure!
*on edit--I should say that coming from the South as I do, I have plenty of acquaintances and colleagues back home who think the opposite--they say I am running with the wrong crowd altogether. The call my wife a "liberal," too, but being from Germany, she has no idea what they mean by that. Actually, as most of our critics back home are southern Republicans, they have no idea what they mean by that, either!
Gabby, Valerie, Howard, Al----you win the thread! I am beyond impressed!

(6,199 posts)'84 V30. I sold it when I bought the V65. It was a fun little thing. It was a big part of the reason I was grinning- I'd always been terrified of motorcycles, and now I was learning to ride. I was pretty proud of me.

(this was before we lowered it and got rid of the forward pegs and changed the bars and put Harley pipes on it and added saddlebags and put on a sound system etc... it looks a little different now but for some reason I haven't taken a recent pic)
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I added forward pegs for my long distant runs. It came with an awesome sound system.
I also added the armrest on the back seat. It's easier to pack my duffel bags there.
By the beginning of April, I should be putting on my chaps and heading out!
