I'm a PA, a Physician Assistant. I'm fortunate that a lot of my patients express confidence in me that they say they don't feel for MD's. I don't know if they are intimidated by the medical degree or what. I just try to live up to my own expectation of what a PA is: a roll-up-your-sleeves and do good medicine kind of guy.

Please don't wait until you are near death. If you have something going on, have it evaluated. I'm a firm believer in preventive care. - End Of Lecture -

There's no time for much more than: "Stop smoking!" "Don't drink so much!" "No, Gatorade is NOT a health drink!" "You don't need antibiotics for a virus!", etc.

Every once in a while I'll have a patient who is a veteran, pinboy3niner. I only get them if they are not, for some reason, eligible for the VA. If they are, I'm required to refer them there. We get some Federal funding for our homeless clinic, and if veterans get care here, it's considered double-dipping.

I tell you, it breaks my heart to see the things they go through. Nobody in this country should be homeless, but especially not veterans...

And it still blows me away. I get the same attention when I am out for a drive.
However it plays hell with my personal life. It takes a man who is secure in himself to walk by my side without feeling threatened. I studied psychology in college so I am a people watcher.

My son pestered me for about a year to go to the eye doctor finally my husband came home and handed me an appt card and said just go. I am/was 45 before I ever needed to go to the eye doctor. Well, I probably should have gone a year sooner.

The right glasses are an awesome accessory! I'm sure you'll look great.

My pic was taken at our half-scale replica of the Wall. My community raised funds to build our own replica, which we display only in our area (unlike the other replica Walls that travel all over the country).

If you don't make it to D.C., you might make it to one of our displays in SoCal. For us, it's a labor of love...

...but I couldn't make myself go out my front door. I'd suppressed so much for so long, without even knowing it, and facing all of that was very scary and threatening. I was unable to do it.

Eventually I had a dramatic psychological catharsis. The kind of thing where, if it happened to someone in church, they would have felt 'reborn.' And I ended up working for a nonprofit group at the Wall for a couple of years. Here's another photo, of me with a friend from that time...

I was at the Wall in about 12-15 years ago. I was in D.C. for a convention. On a Sunday I believe, I went for a walk, beautiful clear cool day. Didn't know where I was going. Suddenly.. I was at the wall and there were hundreds of vets and others around. It was Veteran's Day. I had no idea... I was in tears the whole time..

is becoming a little old man, I'm sad to say. The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger (13 years old, 12 pounds) has always been more of a lover than a fighter, but last week he decided to challenge my sister-in-law's little boy cat, Pipi (1.5 years old, 15 pounds, lives across the street) for peeing around in our hedge. Needless to say, Ginger has spent the last few days limping around, nursing his wounds and reluctantly taking antibiotics for his many flesh wounds.

Talk some sense into your buddy, wouldja?

You can't walk from the house to the car without sweat pouring off you. Our subdivision has a public pool that we go to but the water is so warm it barely cools you off. I have to get in every 5 minutes. Of course we have central air but it gets so hot by May and you don't turn in off until October you get no break on the electricity bill because you have such a small window (no pun intended) where you're not running the air or the heat.

There's so many transplants from Northern states who think I'm nuts because I miss the snow so much.

I just miss NE in general--Friday night fish frys, fried clams, the fall (my favorite season), good pizza and most of all my family.

I think my NE accent (that I thought I never had but everyone down here tells me I do) got stronger because I was hell bent on not picking up a Southern one. No offense to Southerners. My kids don't have it either, and they were both born down here.

Sorry for ranting; it's just nice to talk to a New Englander, and I'm such a New England girl at heart!

I did live for a couple of years in South Florida - what a shit hole, but I loved the weather. I did miss the cheap lobsters right off the boat...and my family. Now, both parents are gone, and it's just my little family (me, hubby, daughter and beasties) and my brother that are left in this state.

We should swap houses as timeshare, lol....you can come up and enjoy the winters, while I go enjoy some summer weather. I have a beautiful house for sale up here - only asking $199k. Less than a mile from the harbor.....Fully restored 1920's Sears Craftsman bungalow, 2k sq. feet.....

Don't let her flair for drama fool you. This picture was a co-mutual flair of the drama...

(to be honest, I really don't think anyone was really embarrassed.)

And this is a picture from one of the more awesome days of my life...

I only had braces on my top teeth. Sore subject---my 11 year old son just got them and his teeth were perfectly straight---it's such a racket nowadays--I'm stewing because we paid upfront--5 grand--I really don't think he needed them and should have put my foot down.

Would love to see the Hillary pic---I campaigned for Bill in 1992 and shook his hand, but since technology was not the same I don't have a picture. It was an amazing experience. I was 22.

I don't have many pics of me around. My daughter was asking for some a few weeks ago and I had to go digging and this was one of them.

Like most people, I do not like a camera pointed in my direction at all! I just cringe and then make goofy mishappen faces. lol.

I must have had some eggnog for this one.

Oh, and speaking about pictures and how I make wierd faces for them - I had to go get one for a passport recently. And the first one was so bad even the photographer laughed his ass off. True! We were both just howling.

Wed Mar 20, 2013, 01:22 PM
Mar 2013

quite a few years ago. I had to look down into a machine that automatically took my picture prior to boarding.

After I was on the ship a couple of days and after a few drinks, I went to one of the desks and asked to see my picture, the professional one they take of you for you to buy. The person behind the desk didn't understand me, and showed me the picture of the one that was taken automatically before boarding.

I had never seen anything so horrid. I couldn't believe it. I was with my aunt and they showed her hers too. Wasn't any better!!!

We laughed our freaking asses off for an entire day. They were so bad. I don't ever think I could describe them. The people behind the desk were in fits too!

Never did get to see the more professional pics. We gave up after that! HA!!!

But the most important one, the last one, has been what makes it all worthwhile. She wears her 60 years better than most.

Better than I do mine, that's for sure!

*on edit--I should say that coming from the South as I do, I have plenty of acquaintances and colleagues back home who think the opposite--they say I am running with the wrong crowd altogether. The call my wife a "liberal," too, but being from Germany, she has no idea what they mean by that. Actually, as most of our critics back home are southern Republicans, they have no idea what they mean by that, either!
