Favorite portrayal of the Devil/devil-type character in film or television?

Last edited Tue Mar 19, 2013, 02:15 PM - Edit history (1)

So with all the recent hub-bub over the History Channel series "The Bible" where people have claimed the Devil to bear a physical resemblence to President Obama, I was wondering about everyone's favorite TV/film devil.

I'll welcome both sarcasm (ever see Oliver Stone's "W"?) as well as legitimate responses.

A recent favorite of mine? Has to be Old Georgie from Cloud Atlas.

Yes, yes, I know what you are thinking. I'm that guy who actually saw--and liked--Cloud Atlas. Go ahead. Mock away, I deserve it.

Of course, I suppose he was the Devil there, but still one of the great performances of the character (in my opinion).

What I admire most is the emotion he inspires beyond his words. You can see the hatred in his gestures and especially his facial expressions, particularly when he talks about the idea of offering his worship to God.

Overall, I think it was a great movie, and he has many remarkable scenes beyond the one I linked. I just think that one's the best.

rolling on the table to break the shell while talking about the symbol of the egg- he starts peeling the shell off talking about how the egg is a symbol of the soul then he takes a big bite out of the egg. chilling stuff

Not a type, the real deal. Too often evil is portrayed as physically ugly. It can be seductively beautiful.

I have a love/hate relationship with that film. Love the cinematography, hate the screenplay. The writing is atrocious! The photography is astounding, as it always is in a Ridley Scott film. 'Darkness' is played by Tim Curry; although nearly unrecognizable under pounds and pounds of makeup (and those horns!), his lips are unmistakable.

He was so good as the King of Hell that I was shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you -- when he portrayed a good guy with an American accent on Doctor Who. Mark Sheppard is such a good villain.

Edited to remove a naughty video that I didn't play all the way through before posting. SORRY.

The Devil from "Brimstone"
The show was pretty grim but Glover was clearly having a lot of fun without eating the scenery.

Sheriff Lucas Buck from "American Gothic"
Pity this series didn't last, ahead of it's time I think.

If you have never seen this movie, see it. Not for Payne, but for Barkin. She's terrific. The movie is hilarious. (And if you're into butts, you'll enjoy Jimmy Smits.)
