I googled his name. He was an Argentinian guitarist who was influenced by the great Eddie Lang, one of history's first jazz guitarists. He went to France between the wars and was hired by none other than Josephine Baker to lead her band. He then made the acquaintance of Django Reinhardt and even sat in for him as a replacement. He certainly does play in that gypsy jazz style and it looks like he's playing on a Selmer style gypsy jazz guitar.

I see that he's got an unorthodox hand position over the guitar neck instead of under the guitar neck in that photo. Do you know if that was his usual style or whether he was just doing something flashy for the camera?

Did Django play like that? Maybe he learned on the zither. Whatever, he can really pick it.
