I found it searching for picture of people in politics to paint . Google was strange in the early 2000s

(19,288 posts)In Idaho. All the am stations are right wing propaganda and I used to faithfully listen to Coast to Coast at night to fall asleep. In the morning the local jock comes on until 9, then it was limbaugh and I would turn it off.
Sometimes I'd listen a short time and become irate. One day he disparaged DU and I used my son's computer to find it. After that I gave my son some money and he built me a computer for just me. Not for the damned games though he still had some of his stuff on my machine. That was in 2005. I was the last democrat to get on the net.

(941 posts)I too, used to listen to C2C, and the new host, well he sucked. I found a website that offered nightly critiques devoted to his suckage. The rest of that website was pretty much right wing crazy talk.
They deleted our little thread, and I had to move on. It took a while to find DU, but now I'm here.

I think it may have been via BartCop.com, or possibly Daily Kos. I lurked for a number of years before actually joining.
On edit: People are mentioning "Top 10 Conservative Idiots", and that's what got me here although I can't remember exactly from where I saw the link to it.

(2,140 posts)During the contested outcome of Al Frankens 2008 Senatorial win by the butt-munch Franken replaced,I constantly searched for updated info.
Eventually I ran across a website devoted to Franken, his campaign, election win,the efforts to deny that win,and was named after Franken.
Many threads there, concerning all manner of rethuglicon douchebaggery, linked to other sites, including this one, which I followed.
Here I am.
Sadly, the site through which I discovered DU,while still in operation, has become a cliquish parody of what it began as,with a small handful of posters effectively running off those who don't tightly mesh with their views. Some there, will disregard a posters point, even when in support or agreement with their own and instead, obsess with attacking and nitpicking wording.I see that here too, though it isn't as obvious as it is with just with the dozen or so regulars at the other place.

(8,217 posts)I didn't become a member till early last year.
That is because the old forum I was in http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/forums died.
So, I finally gave in and joined, especially since it was an election year and I needed a place to keep my political fix that was not completely barraged by extreme right wing stupidity.

Somebody used to post the Top Ten Conservative idiots on seattle.general back in the old usenet days. I lurked for years before creating an account, never used it and created a new account when DU3 started.

They kept talking about DU and DUmmies and I thought that sounded of more interest to me, so here I am.

(12,590 posts)they thought I would enjoy DU. I joined and could read posts but could not post myself. I can't remember how I got in touch with Skinner, but he explained that WebTV was not compatible with DU (or something of that nature.) I learned some backdoor trick to get to post and then FINALLY got a sure-enough computer.
I look back nostalgically at my little WebTV - I discovered DU, and Howard Dean was running for President - lots of fun in the good ol' days

Anyway, I was surfing the net, looking for some anti-Bush stuff. On a site called (I think) StopBush, I saw a link for DU, clicked, and never looked back.
I'm proud to be a DU old-timer. 2001, baby!

And there was DU.

(2,562 posts)he gave a shout-out to the Rude Pundit.
I surfed over to the Rude One's web site. He is rude, but it was the perfect antidote for my I-hate-the-republicans-blues.
The Rude Pundit had done a piece about The Top 10 Conservative Idiots, and he had good things to say about DU, and he had a link. The rest, as they say, is history. I fell in love with DU right away, but lurked for a very long time because some of the flaming put me off...
I finally decided to join (back in DU 2), and have been here ever since.
My only problem with this place: I spend too much of my time here.

(54,990 posts)first got on line in about 2000, there was a small discussion group affiliated with my local dial-up internet provider. spent some time arguing politics with folks there. I had quit watching teevee some years before and was pretty ignorant of things. this one clown started going on about Ann Coulter and her new book, so I was looking up things about her and came across the top 10 (among much else) then found Bob Boudelange (or however it was spelled) and eventually found the actual discussion forums (heh) and started posting - I joined in Feb of 2004 and was so glad to be here for the heartbreak of the Nov election. I was pretty bereft that winter. So glad to have this place to commiserate and read with other Dems. I live in a pretty red area.

(6,996 posts)Sam Seder, who also had a show on AirAmerica radio, told his listeners to sign a "Bring Back Malloy" petition that was on DU. It was just before the 2006 election and DU was really wild and frantic. I loved it ! And I've stayed, still lovin' it.
(btw - Sam Seder was made to pay for his brave stand against the AirAmerica management.)

(3,109 posts)a number of sites sprang up shortly after the 2000 election, I was one of the first several thousand to join in the first week or so. I stop by every day, but don't post all that often. Lately my biggest contribution is to reply to n2oc's cartoons with a link to all of his days postings. If he is good enough to find the cartoons, I can at least give a link to all of them so that fans can see all of them without having to search long an hard. He does the hard work.
