(32,073 posts)I couldn't think of Jeff Goldblum's name when I was listing the cast, so I had to refer to the DVD's box. I can't believe I missed Ellen's correct last name.

I only own a few dvds, actually. Godfather, Sense and Sensibility ( Emma thompson) Steel Magnolias, Sleepless in Seattle.
Oh, and Citizen Cane.

(60,010 posts)I used to drive these old country roads with that soundtrack blasting away.....
didja know that the tune was written by Dougie McLean, a Scottish performer?
Called The Gael.
Here is the cut from his album:the part we are familiar with is not until halfway thru.
plus I added his other very popular tune,Caledonia, which I love .(.the title says it is by Celtic Thunder but it is actually McLean.)

(18,219 posts)Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books, and that movie sticks so well with the book! I do not have a DVD player, so don't have DVD's, but I do have that on VHS. My favorite along with Shogun with Richard Chamberlain.

(14,860 posts)Laconicspouse's parents recently upgraded from the VHS version on a nearly dead TV to bluray on a huge plasma!
You should have heard the subsequent phone call--"you can see the texture on Mr. Bennett's coat! The wallpaper has a pattern!"
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)I watch it about once a year, and when my mom was still alive, we watched it about every three or four months....we both loved it. We would say we would watch two tapes at a time, and would end up wasting the whole day!
Maybe one day, I, too, will have a good TV and a DVD player. Not a priority.
laconicsax
(14,860 posts)Although, it is harder to turn it off when you only have one break in the middle.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)you don't know me well if you think that would make it a priority for me. I still have a console TV bought in 1987, and will have it as long as it works when I turn it on, mostly because I don't like to waste anything that is functioning.

(204,618 posts)One of the rare things we could come together on. I lost her in September. And I also have it on VHS. I taped it myself.

(18,219 posts)I am sorry to hear you lost your mom so recently. It will be 11 years soon since I lost my mom, and I still miss her. But the good memories are alive.
Rhiannon12866
(204,618 posts)It's recent enough that it's still shocking to me. And because it was an accident, I keep thinking that it shouldn't have happened. Added to that, today's my father's birthday. I lost him in 1990, cancer, but it still seems like yesterday. I guess you eventually get used to these things, but that doesn't mean that the pain goes away. Some days are better than others, but I'm sure you know that already. Something small can suddenly bring it all back...

(21,046 posts)I remember the album cover with the fuchsia color and a drawing of the two kids kissing.
The main thing I remembered about the movie was the childbirth scene that was faked.
The girl was pushing and then they cut to some footage obviously taken from an educational film about childbirth.
But Elton John's music was really good!
