(47,675 posts)I was sitting rather still near the garden while my wife was weeding (and wearing a rather nice tank top and short shorts). As I sat there enjoying the scenery, a young catbird landed on my knee. I stayed still. It was looking around for something to go after and it did take it a while to notice what it had landed on. The expression on its face was priceless - I'm the one who yells at them for getting under the bird netting on the blueberry bush. Still, it only took off to the lilac bush nearby and from there it moved to the rose of sharon about 10' away. They're smart birds, but it did freak the shit out of the thing. I easily could have grabbed it.

(38,309 posts)We have a fountain they like to bathe in. When they are taking a bath they have zero tolerance for any intruders. They'll chase off much larger birds and people too.
Maybe the funniest thing I saw was at Yosemite National Park. There are signs all over the place telling people not to mess with the deer, some of them graphic with drawings of people getting attacked by deer.
We saw two morons who must have seen the sign because it was right next to them teasing the deer. One of the deer got irritated and knocked both guys on their butts. When they got up to run away the deer chased them.

(115,661 posts)Saw two house cats chasing a white tailed deer through my parents' back yard some years ago. I don't know if they really thought they could catch the deer, but I imagine they were thinking, "If we can pull this off we'll eat like kings!" The deer seemed to be taking them seriously, though; its white tail was up and it was running like hell.
