these guys would be the biggest stars on the planet. Poly ethnic-cajun-slamgrass. The music of America and one of the best bands I ever saw.

They are however very well respected among the Americana music industry. toured with del mcCoury band, Cracker, and played with everyone from Sam Bush to Bela Fleck to Michael Franti....Good freind and frequent stagemates with Little Feat...

These guys predate the Sex Pistols, they where way ahead of their time i can't believe this was recorded in 1973/76 they should have been huge.

One of my biggest complaints about rock music (and IMO part of the reason it's been dying out for the past 20 years) is that it's a white male club, with only a few notable exceptions. If these guys do pre-date the sex pistols, then it's a fucking shame that they're not better known.

probably the best band of the 90's that never really made it...had a couple of hits and faded away....the singer did a stint for the queens of the stone age, the brothers who played guitar and bass also did some outside work, but as a band they were kind of overlooked...i think because the guitarist was a big guy...not a "cute" band....sad...they were very talented...buy "sweet oblivion"...great album...

the early 80's band zebra was pretty good too...i think the singer is doing opera style music now...

Cold Blood

Garbage

Off the top of my head...

And I DEFINITELY agree With Terry Kath !!!

Such a tragic waste...

Former drummer Danny Seraphine mentions in his autobiography "Street Player: My Chicago Story" that Kath had a high tolerance for drugs. Around 5 p.m., on January 23, 1978, after a party at roadie/band technician Don Johnson's home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, Kath took an unloaded .38 revolver and put it to his head, pulling the trigger several times on the empty chambers. Johnson had warned Kath several times to be careful. Kath then picked up a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and, leaning back in a chair, said to Johnson, "Don't worry, it's not loaded". After showing the empty magazine to Johnson, Kath replaced the magazine in the gun, put the gun to his temple, and pulled the trigger. There was a round in the chamber, and he died instantly.[10] It was the week before his 32nd birthday.

And if you listen to 'Free Form Guitar' on their fist albmn, CTA

you will hear what Hendrix was talking about.

They're far and away the best rock act formed in my lifetime (granted I'm pretty young). In the UK they're huge, because they seem to recognize good music over there. In the US, they've got a minor hit and nobody listens to any of their other stuff.

Jesus and Mary Chain is one of the most famous bands in the world, but in America they are totally underrated.
This is some song they played on TV after they got old:

====

The Rave-ups were pioneers in the alt-country sound with their album Chance that came out in the late 80's or early 90s being really good.

On Malloy's show, Kathy sometimes plays a part of a track from Blind Curve -- I sent it to her years ago -- about the war widow in the laundrette, so they get some radio play. /snark

Awesome band out of Oregon. Big influence on Nirvana. Greg Sage is one of the original DIY guys, too. He sells his CDs on his website, and he sells them at a reasonable price. The Wipers Box Set is a steal at $17. It's basically their first three CDs and a crap load of alternate takes.

A Fine Frenzy, for example, gets good reviews from most critics, but only has a devoted following in the public instead of widespread appeal.

Bon Jovi is popular, but I like him more than critics do.

They're a British band from Great Yarmouth, East Anglia, which is the same region the pilgrims came from. My favorite band of all time and one of the most underrated in history, IMO. Here's 'Pain' from 1993:
