I saw this article in an old magazine asking singers and bands who they thought where underrated. So I bring this question here.
Who do you think is underrated?

(9,982 posts)Stevie Ray said his big brother was better than him - as an ensemble player, it could be true!

(9,982 posts)Live, electric, with Stevie Ray
A musican's musican - he's "sat in" with Paul Schafer on Letterman, GE Smith & SNL Band

(9,982 posts)Played a right-handed guitar left-handed, with his own stringing and tuning. Stevie Ray was one of the few who could keep up.....

(23,340 posts)The first blues album I ever bought was Albert King live at the Fillmore, here he is with Stevie.

(10,440 posts)these guys would be the biggest stars on the planet. Poly ethnic-cajun-slamgrass. The music of America and one of the best bands I ever saw.
They are however very well respected among the Americana music industry. toured with del mcCoury band, Cracker, and played with everyone from Sam Bush to Bela Fleck to Michael Franti....Good freind and frequent stagemates with Little Feat...

(1,259 posts)These guys predate the Sex Pistols, they where way ahead of their time i can't believe this was recorded in 1973/76 they should have been huge.

(25,453 posts)One of my biggest complaints about rock music (and IMO part of the reason it's been dying out for the past 20 years) is that it's a white male club, with only a few notable exceptions. If these guys do pre-date the sex pistols, then it's a fucking shame that they're not better known.

(1,259 posts)I just discovered them a few nights ago they blew me away. They where way ahead of their time.

(11,546 posts)I can see how they would not have been radio friendly back in '76 but it's too bad that they didn't get a chance later.

(2,952 posts)probably the best band of the 90's that never really made it...had a couple of hits and faded away....the singer did a stint for the queens of the stone age, the brothers who played guitar and bass also did some outside work, but as a band they were kind of overlooked...i think because the guitarist was a big guy...not a "cute" band....sad...they were very talented...buy "sweet oblivion"...great album...
the early 80's band zebra was pretty good too...i think the singer is doing opera style music now...

Off the top of my head...
And I DEFINITELY agree With Terry Kath !!!
Such a tragic waste...
And if you listen to 'Free Form Guitar' on their fist albmn, CTA
you will hear what Hendrix was talking about.

(25,453 posts)They're far and away the best rock act formed in my lifetime (granted I'm pretty young). In the UK they're huge, because they seem to recognize good music over there. In the US, they've got a minor hit and nobody listens to any of their other stuff.

(8,244 posts)Jesus and Mary Chain is one of the most famous bands in the world, but in America they are totally underrated.
This is some song they played on TV after they got old:
====
The Rave-ups were pioneers in the alt-country sound with their album Chance that came out in the late 80's or early 90s being really good.

On Malloy's show, Kathy sometimes plays a part of a track from Blind Curve -- I sent it to her years ago -- about the war widow in the laundrette, so they get some radio play. /snark

(5,029 posts)Awesome band out of Oregon. Big influence on Nirvana. Greg Sage is one of the original DIY guys, too. He sells his CDs on his website, and he sells them at a reasonable price. The Wipers Box Set is a steal at $17. It's basically their first three CDs and a crap load of alternate takes.

(65,173 posts)A Fine Frenzy, for example, gets good reviews from most critics, but only has a devoted following in the public instead of widespread appeal.
Bon Jovi is popular, but I like him more than critics do.
Tom Ripley
(4,945 posts)People give him due credit as a visionary performer, but still, in my opinion, often undervalue his musical skills.
He is an incredibly talented singer and multi-instrumentalist

(23,340 posts)Never did a band have a greater range of styles, and to be so good at all of them.
Great in concert, too.

(8,556 posts)They're a British band from Great Yarmouth, East Anglia, which is the same region the pilgrims came from. My favorite band of all time and one of the most underrated in history, IMO. Here's 'Pain' from 1993:
