is a cigar just a cigar? And if it is, why would anyone want to smell like that? I work for a man who smokes cigars socially if you will, but every time there is some vent, they all go off to smoke their cigars, leaving the women behind (maybe that is the point) and I work with a guy who smokes cigars in his car on the way to work, at lunch then comes into the office wearing a wool sweater saturated with cigar smoke and I want to hurl. And I cant say anything cause the boss buys him cigars!
So, is a cigar a psychosexual thing, a nicotine thing, a buys club thing? Cause they make me puke.

cigars are more of a guy power thing. They smoke them after golf, fundraisers, political meetings, cigarettes are a physical addiction. Different.

(20,277 posts)I think you are reading way too much into this.
I also know that women smoke cigars.

(4,261 posts)Why anyone would start smoking those things, let alone keep smoking them is beyond me. It just ain't healthy physically and otherwise.

(14,910 posts)Sometimes I enjoy one...
Generally occasions, weddings, childbirths, etc. once in awhile socially.
To me it's like coffee, wine or craft beer, they all have their subtleties...

With all due respect to Mr. Twain, I would include one additional activity.

(4,833 posts)I doubt if I have one more than once every three or four months. It takes me years to exhaust a ~ 60 cigar capacity humidor. It's about 3/4 full now.
That said, I hate the smell of stale cigar smoke. So, when I have one, I go out on the lanai, turn on all three ceiling fans out there, and puff away. Usually with the benefit of a nice cognac as an accompaniment. After I finish, I come inside, strip down, take a shower, do some oral hygiene, and throw what I had on into the washing machine and fire it up.
And that holds me for a few more months.

(12,132 posts)I quit cigs in 2003 but I'll have 3 to 6 cigars a year.
Does a good humidor really keep them fresh? I generally just go to the cigar store nearby but even that place is hit and miss regarding whether or not you get a fresh one. They are more concerned with all the hip smoking accessories and little skinny cigarette style cigars. But they are close and cheap.
There's a neat shop downtown that I would trust but it's such a pain in the ass to get parked downtown. But if I could go in once a year and by enough to last me a year or so and they'd stay fresh that would kick ass.

(55,007 posts)colognes and perfumes are at least as sickening as cigar stench 90% of the time.
people that enjoy strong aromas should all be locked in a room together (especially the ones who are clueless about how much their stench bothers other people)

I don't like that potpourri junk or those sickening plug in oil doodads.

(56,828 posts)those men or women who bathe themselves in it. However, I don't mind a touch of perfume on a woman.
When I smell somebody with a lot of perfume or cologne, I think they either woke up late an didn't have time to shower, or else were too lazy to shower that day, and doused themselves in the perfume/cologne to cover it up. Of course, if they do that every day, it's obnoxious.
IMO, though, even one cigarette leaves a foul odor.
