California: Man finds black bear in his truck

Evan Nielson from Truckee, California, faced an unusual sight when he discovered a black bear in his truck.

The bear had somehow opened the door of the vehicle and climbed in.

"At one point he had both hands on the steering wheel and was honking the horn with his snout," said Mr Nielson, who recorded the incident with a mobile phone camera.

Police arrived and let the bear out, but the truck was left badly damaged by the encounter.

Good thing Mr. Nielson didn't leave the keys in the truck. Bears are terrible drivers.

There's been a few times I couldn't find the switch for the dome light either.

Knowing bears, and many dogs too, he was probably after one or two french fries lost under the seat.

I worked for a Subaru dealer in Maine back in '89. We had a wagon come in on a transporter that had been ransacked by a black bear. The interior looked just about like that truck, with the addition of the the passenger seat back wrenched around 90 degrees. Don't park your car in the woods with the windows down and food in it.

When we visited my SIL and her family near Tahoe City we were told that bears had been raiding the dumpsters.
Owls regurgitate rodent bones and fur in the form of "owl pellets"... while we walked in the woods we saw that bears poop big "pellets" of plastic bags and other non-digestibles along the trails.
