One more cat for Salmon Chanted Evening

This one wasn't from me, but from my friend Adrian Cronauer. He's actually a Republican, but a good guy all the same. Well into his seventies now, he is also nothing like the Robin Williams portrayal of him in "Good Morning Vietnam," but rather a very laid-back and extremely intellectual character. Definitely the "worst" Republican I know ( from a Republican point of view, i.e. the best!).

Politics, world affairs, even abortion: I've commented on these with never more negative reactions than I had posting one remark on Salmon Chanted Evening . I absolutely LOVE the cute, candid shots that people get with their pets. My problem was with the increasingly "set up,' dress up" excrutiating positions almost always being set up for the pictures. My feeling from a lifetime with dogs, cats and horses, was that great candids constantly occur---but having a camera handy is not so likely. A cat trapped in baby clothes in a stroller is a universal joke. SEE, however, was tending more and more to these stupid, staged pictures of animals. I made my feelings known, and I think used the term"dignity" at one point, My favorite reply was from a gentleman who accused me of "thinking animals have dignity---they're just animals!'

I know the ability to do smooth, irreverent patter was much enjoyed by by the troops, especially black humor appreciated by those kids who might have just been discouraged by the time they knew our reasons for war were so different from their dad's WWII years, but ended up in the service anyway. I had a brother and friends who served. Not going into the crazy circumstances of draft, enlistment, skipping to Canada, staying in college (none of it fair to only guys in those years.) Since WWII, starting with Korea, our children (until recently only our sons)have been fighting wars having nothing to do this nation's safety. Long story short: put our kids on the line to secure "American Freedom," meaning the "Global Economy," The rebellion of exploited kids and adults with decreasing options (lazy slackers who want the government to take of them) has only been about right wing desire to become in charge of the world's resources. Check out "Sinister Pig," the late Tony Hillerman's 2003 novel.
