Just had an ultrasound of my thyroid today, and tomorrow I'll have a nuclear test/thyroid uptake. Hopefully these will bring some answers!

I had a workout today too.....it felt good! I am getting stronger, and I need to.

Are you called out often, when you are 'on call"?

4. No. I do what's called 'Outpatient Call'.

It's usually the MD's who have to rush off to the hospital in the middle of the night.

I can stay at home and answer phone calls from the outpatient service center. What I get are usually panicky mothers who are convinced that their babies have a fever. I get people wanting refills on their medications, even though they are supposed to request refills during clinic hours. And every once in a while, I'll get old people, people who live alone, or are otherwise lonely, and complain of some minor ailment that can wait until clinic the next day, just so they have someone to talk to.

And also, the ones who want me to prescribe narcotics for them. "Well, Dr. So-And-So does it all the time!" That's a common one from people who don't know that I can access their charts from home, and can see very well what Dr. So-And-So did or did not prescribe for the patient.

It's a hassle, but I get extra pay for it, and I don't even have to get out of my pajamas...

16. Two or three weekdays and one weekend per month.

The rotation is fairly light right now, since we have a large number of providers on staff. When the staff is smaller, we really have to scramble...
