His girlfriend died of some disease. He recorded this song sometime after she died. Right after the recording, he broke down crying.

I have always loved this song.

I'm the morning show host on a classic rock station in my little town. I played this song one morning; and then later in the day, my GM called me into her office to tell me that I shouldn't play Van Morrison because he isn't considered classic rock. I've been in radio for 30 years, and that was news to me. I just shook my head.
