(20,176 posts)This multimillionaire law firm built a office tower near Farragut Square with retail space on the lower floors, some of which was rented to a multimillion dollar restaurant group who opened a burger place...six weeks later the law firm evicted the burger place claiming that they made the entire building smell like fried foods due to improper ventilation. The burger place counter-sued claiming that they were not in violation of the lease and the law firm as the landlord was responsible for the facilities, if there was a ventilation problem which was occurring outside of their rental-space (The building smells like fried foods because of how the ventilation system throughout the building was constructed) that the landlord had a responsibility to repair or modify the physical structure to address those issues.
They've been suing each other ever since, for about 4 years now, with legal fees and court fees on both sides now approaching the total replacement cost of building an entirely-new building. For what the burger place has spent...they could have bought another office-tower with ground-floor retail to put their burger restaurant in. For what the law firm has spent, they could have torn down the old building, rebuilt a new building in its place which didn't have the problems the old building had...which is to say they've spent several times what it would have cost to simply redesign and replace the vent system.
It's entirely become a case of multimillion-dollar chicken for returns measurable in the thousands.

(20,176 posts)I just think there comes a point where it's really obvious that they just don't want you there and spending $4-5M to fight them on that rather than moving on and opening at a different location is money poorly spent.
Let's say the restaurant wins...they still have to deal with having the same landlord that spent more than the building was worth to try to get rid of them. It's not a winning proposition.

How's everything else?

(72,300 posts)3 hours later.
Why do most of my men like to sleep late?
Everything else is going smoothly ... except no escorting jobs!
The guys are building a blue stone patio.
The neighbors are concerned.
Lots of ... did you ask, is it really okay to do that.
Work on the Koi Pond will start again this week.
More questions, I'm sure.

The jobs will arrive...patience is an annoying virtue, but a virtue nonetheless. I do hope it is sooner rather than later!
Neighbors can be the bane of our existence if they become too "concerned". I make it a point to get along with all of mine, on my terms of course! I'm sure you do the same!

(72,300 posts)I just sent the guys over to the office to play our lot rent a few days early.
If there is a problem, we need to know while we have the time to move the stone.
They are going back for another truck load today.
My way of dealing with the concerned neighbors was to invite the nice ones over to enjoy the shade of my market umbrella. I said bring your cold drink and rest in the outdoors.
I can't stay inside anymore. Miss Frodo is going on a leash and joining me out on the deck later today cause the AC needs repair/charging or something. I had two month old ACs that the bank's employees stole last October. I did file a police report, nothing was done.

(72,300 posts)Now we are picking up other dog's mess cause if we don't the neighbors will think it's our dog.
The next house to our east already complained about poo that he thought belonged to PIA. Is there a safe food coloring I can add to her food to mark our dog's poo?
Oh and .. Bernie just did a new interview from jail stating: now he is sorry. What do you want to bet that he ask for an early release ... with a home monitor, or some shit.

(7,515 posts)All food coloring is safe...I just don't think that it will change her poo color.
