(I think this is more about a regular friend than a girlfriend but the sentiment works)

This is a song which I use to describe
what I feel
About people like you
No sense for humanity, no idea about life
This premise has been proved
You used my trust to satisfy your
brainless lust
Your word isn't worth more than puke
in the dust

Betrayer
Betrayer

Misleader, you twisted things to satisfy
Deceiver, this greedy lust you can't deny
How could I be so naive to believe
all the lies
You so easily told
I think I've learned my lesson too late
The story took time to unfold
Now I see your true face
Behind your mask, a cheat, a fake
Your word isn't worth more than puke
in the dust

Betrayer
Betrayer

Ignorant twisted mind, maybe it
would help
To think before you speak from time
to time
Pretend to be a friend of mine
But you would sell your mother if
you could
For less than a dime

Intelligence lost, Brain deceased,
So you will loose, fall to your knees,
Guys like you I cannot stand
Maybe I must speak another language
before you understand

I would add songs like Josh Ritter's New Lover, Bonny Portmore (this has been done by a lot of people but I'm partial to Loreena McKinnety's version), R.E.M.'s Everybody Hurts, Grant Lee Buffalo's Everybody Needs a Little Sanctuary, pretty much anything by Ani DiFranco, Alejandro Escovedo's Gravity/Falling Down Again or Bruce Springsteen's The Wrestler.

Or if he's more of the angry about the break up, you could always go with Metallica's Die, Die My Darling or Guns and Roses' Used to Love Her.

But in 2011, when I survived the breakup from hell, Kelly Clarkson's music got me through it.

Some good breakup songs of hers--
Never Again
Behind These Hazel Eyes
Cry
Mr. Know It All (only applicable if your friend broke up with a dude)
Stronger

.
.
.

Wendy is my ex-wife's name.

Had to turn the radio down when I was driving when it came on back in the late 70's - I would start crying right away.

Still have an emotional reaction to the name Wendy.

I suspect it will always be that way.

I don't believe a word, I know you tell me lies
Just watch me flip the bird, right in your lyin' eyes
You just can't figure out, why I'm the way I am
I'm low-life born and bred, and I don't give a damn

I've had enough, I'm stepping out of line
Ain't gonna stop me babe, you ain't worth a dime
You nearly had me fooled, wastin' my time
You might've broke my heart
And if you broke my heart
I know it ain't my crime

I'm here to tell you, was here and now I'm gone
You need a wages slave, but I sure ain't the one
I'm moving off the lot, just hire another act
I don't need what you got, that ain't where I'm at

I've had enough, I'm stepping out of line
Ain't gonna stop me babe, you ain't worth a dime
You nearly had me fooled, wastin' my time
You might've broke my heart
And if you broke my heart
I know it ain't my crime

Just show me the door, here I go again
I seen it all before, happens now and then
No tears in your eyes, sure ain't none in mine
Two people in disguise, frozen in time
