I have a computer problem that has me vexed

it takes a bit of explaining . . .

Right before the problem I was downloading archived files for a radio show I like, I was on the 7th or 8th show download, when I got a little window popup saying a "script has stopped working" and "do you want to stop the script". I get one of these several times a week, and I always click the "stop the script" box and sometimes I have to re-save the picture I was downloading (I download a lot of pics for my own use, I'm an artist), and this is what I did for the audio file. When the window asked me where to put the file, I did my usual, which was to highlight the name of the file (the original name was just some numbers) to the name of that particular show. It wouldn't let me. I couldn't delete it, cut and paste anything on top of it or post next to it, so I proceeded with the download and went in to rename it in the folder where I put it. Again, it wouldn't allow me change it. Then I noticed I couldn't type normally. I tried to type some things into google, and nothing would happen, so I laid on a key and after a few seconds it started to type, but not the key I was holding down. For example, when I type j, I hold on the key, and it comes out, j

It's a Toshiba netbook I've had for about 3 years. I like solving mysteries, but this one I'm not enjoying.: (

ETA . . . when I hold the j key down for example, it comes out like this: J[[[[[[[[

Odd things have happened after updates, then, mysteriously, things go back to normal. I hope. But until that time . . . I panic a little.

5. Try a cold reboot.

Take the battery out for a bit. The replace battery, and reboot. Don't know if that will give you a true re-boot on a laptop, but it should.

Otherwise, have you checked your restore options? Should be able to find a restore point to before downloading of pics.

I'm guessing that it is not likely a hardware issue, like you didn't spill something into the keyboard that didn't seem to cause a problem when it happened but has since dried in a sticky way, right?

Lastly, my daughter recently had a similar problem (keyboard completely quit, or seemed to) on a notebook, took it to trade in when she went to replace it, and they took it into the back for 2 minutes and fixed it. Don't know what they did, but it might be worth going to Staples or Best Buy or whatever computer geeks you like and give them 5 minutes with it.

If you're running XP, you can do a system restore to a date back before the problems started.
