(27,677 posts)Liz Montgomery: Yes. Mr. President, you said that the Humphrey-Hawkins bill will cost a possible sixty billion dollars. But isn't it true that the jobs provided by the bill will create up to a hundred and fifty billion dollars in increased production -- using Walter Heller's figure that for every one percent unemployed, there is a resulting thirty-seven billion dollar loss in GNP. Now, at hte present rate of taxation on GNP of thirty-nine percent, doesn't this come to about the same sixty billion dollars in increased revenue?
President Gerald R. Ford: It was my understanding that there would be no math...

(38,303 posts)When we first met she was making extra money tutoring suffering calculus students.
While we were dating we'd sometimes go out with her PhD mathematician friends. I think she wanted to be sure I was okay with those sorts of people...
There have always been gifted math people in my life, since I was a kid.
Alas, I am not one of them. Any math I own beyond algebra, high school trig/geometry, and simple statistics has been very hard won.
My own kids abandoned me as a source of math advice early on in their high school years.
