Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI found a kitten
that was howling and starving. I brought it home and fed it. It is sleeping in a bed outside. I can't keep it because my other cat hates it. I tried every avenue of SPCA, but I'm in the sticks, and they don't care unless you have a wild pig in the yard (not an unlikely scenario, judging by the flock of them I saw rooting on the side of I-10, but I digress).
What do I do with this kitten? I cannot take on another cat. I can't, and she is not liked by my other outdoor cat. I'm praying that when animal contol opens on Monday they will take her and send her to a shelter. Small towns. Animal control is open M-F, 8-4, and I quote from the recording "we're closed from 12-1 for lunch".
WTF?

(39,961 posts)She was starving and I was at the grocery store and she was howling. I thought she was trapped in a car or something, but then she burst out yowling. I brought her home and fed her. She's asleep in the catbed that my other cat doesn't sleep in anymore because she sleeps inside now.
It would be fine, but Roma hates her.

(39,961 posts)kitten that is starving. It just can't, but I can't keep her.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,656 posts)Cats are almost always hostile to newcomers but they usually settle down and accept them, given a little time. Last time I got a kitten the incumbent cats hissed and snarled for a couple of days and then they were fine.

(39,961 posts)Mine is just fine, she's wonderful, and I am in no way looking to replace her. I love her too much to ever make her think that, but my heart just got stung when I heard this poor thing screaming.

(39,961 posts)I hadn't thought of that. I'd like to find her a home. She's awfully sweet.

(39,961 posts)and Mobile isn't far. She will have no trouble getting adopted. Thanks for that
ETA: and she'll be fat as a tick by the time I get her there on Monday.

(18,705 posts)Found her in old house, no mama in sight.
Yeah, she is still here.
She is about 8 years old now, one bossy cat.
Good luck with the kitten.

(39,961 posts)and she is still here, and pretty much owns every part of my heart. She freaked out and got mad about the kitten, and that's why the kitten has to go. I really can't handle more than one cat anyway, though, but if Roma can't handle it, I have to let the kitten go to a better family. She'll get adopted - she's a cutie. Roma came to me as a full-grown cat, but she stole my heart.

(18,705 posts)Your Roma is a one woman cat.
The kitten will find a good home.
You are feeding the kitten and keeping it warm.
My rescue cat is a mostly out door cat, she doesn't play well with others.
Thank you for taking care of the kitten.

(39,961 posts)I found her. She was quite literally living off the land. If she couldn't catch it, she didn't eat. She jumped into my lap the day that I offered her a bowl of cat food. Since then, she has been a friend that is steadfast and earnest. I can only offer her the same, and shamelessly spoil her with ever kind of cat food I can, and every treat she likes.
She's the best. She's been with me for four years, and keeps me grounded. Nothing ever will or ever could replace her. She is very special.

(18,705 posts)My cat is just plane old bossy.
Now I have a stray that comes around, I think she was someones pet.
She is very friendly and likes to hang out.
She will even come into the house but won't stay.
I haven't named her yet.
She likes to sit with me on the deck.
Time will deal.

(118,577 posts)Better yet get it shots and dewormed. Then you can put that on a flyer. I did that once when a university student was moving and walking down the street saying "do you want a cat, do you want a cat" to anyone. I got him fixed. Put him in an ad. Got him adopted to a nice family.

(39,961 posts)I highly doubt that anyone is looking for her because she was wailing in hunger. I brought her home and fed her and she thinks I'm the Messiah. I put her to bed in my other cats bed outside (Roma comes in at night, now). I have a big fluffy blanket in the bed, but it's in the 60's at night now, and she's eating very good food, so she will be alright until i take her to the shelter on Monday.
