OK Lounge Chefs: How to reheat a steak?

Got a leftover rib eye I grilled the other night.
It's medium rare.
I'd like to heat it without making it medium to well done.
I don't think nuking it is the answer.

In a low oven for 20 minutes or so?
Or in a hot skillet to kinda crust the surface?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

4. Slice it into thin strips and saute it in with some onions and oil.

Do the onions first and then add the strips of steak. Just heat the steaks until they are just starting to sizzle. Then serve over a bed of rice. You can either go with a soy and rice solution or worchestershire sauce and zuchinni solution!

Good luck!

Sure, that would be good.
But I just want the steak.
Got leftover baked potato and broc too.
I think searing it is the best solution.
Butter's in the skillet.
To hell with the EVOO!

5. You may have asked too late; depends on when you want to eat.

REMOVE FROM FRIDGE, get it up to room temperature before attempting any further 'cooking.'

I wouldn't put it in oven, certainly not for 20 minutes, and if you want to sear it, as suggested, I'd forget the butter; tiny amount of olive oil maybe, for BRIEF time on each side.

whatever way that was. Stovetop or broil in the oven is fine too.

"...cover it with foil.."? Won't that pretty well destroy your microwave?

When nuking (reheating) steaks or pork chops, I wrap 'em in Saran Wrap...keeps the moisture in, and your leftovers don't taste like shoe leather. I also use medium heat...bring 'em along slowly.

The problem with reheating a steak is you want to heat it up without cooking it any more than it already is. Putting it in the microwave, oven, frying pan, or any other direct or radiated heat methods are almost certainly going to recook the steak because the heat applied is greater than the target internal temperature.

I use my sous vide setup to reheat meats, but you can do more or less the same thing with a slow cooker filled with water and set to low. Seal the steak in a ziplock or vacuum pack, and dunk it in the water for about 30 minutes or so. Ideally you'd want to keep the water temp about 150 degrees. A slow cooker set to low is going to be higher than that, so you can either cycle it on and off or use shorter times.
