Oh the places you'll Go

I just answered an email from one of my online students that still has me shaking my head. It was explaining why she had not been keeping up as well as she thought she should have.

The really incredulous part of the letter said:


I am actually on vacation in Hawaii, not an excuse here just information. I have not keep up as well as I would have hoped, but I come home in Tuesday and will be putting in 120 percent in on my work. Please do not drop me from your class.


I assume this is [strike through]partially[/strike through] entirely because of the new DOE requirements that online "attendance" requires actual participation in academic exercises such as discussions, etc. - which can seriously mess with your financing.
