But they may be useful for certain people -- the handicapped, the elderly, people with injuries or recuperating from arm surgery, etc.

I absolutely hear you.

And I also think that it would sell well to a couple of friends I know who sit around in their underpants and play video games all day. That was my immediate reaction, but I can imagine that it would provide a real benefit to the folks you mention.

the people that people want to claim this product helps. They still have to screw/unscrew the bottle to attach the spigot and a 2L bottle only holds about 5 glasses of soda with ice so they're going to have to change them constantly. It'd be a great idea if soda came in larger containers that worked with the spigot.

Currently, for reasons beyond their product's control and design, this product is a gimmicky toy of no use to most anybody.

She's 82 and doesn't like cans, but the 2 liter bottles are difficult for her to lift. At her age, if she wants to drink diet cola, that's her business.

When adding mixers to their drinks! Also gives it a tap-like feel.

Actually that would come in useful for my desk that has every square inch covered with piles of stuff.

Or it would be good for the needlework group - inevitably somebody knocks over their cup of soda over everybody else's stitching supplies, which for some of the fibers can ruin them. That clamp would make spills less likely and if they do happen they would end up on the floor not the table!

The engineer in me DETESTS those kind of "solutions".

Not to mention some problems with the design:

* You'd have to have a "vent" at the top (meaning poke a hole in the top of the bottle) to drain. So you have flat coke in a day...

* The tap is above the height of the bottom of the bottle. Meaning it won't be able to drain about 1/4 of the bottle (the amount below the top).

* Bad support, meaning your piece of crap plastic attachment and bottle will tip over REALLY easy. Probably breaking and making a mess.

Suck ass design....

One squeezes the bottle to get the last of it out.

Bullet points 1 & 3, I concur.

I hear there are leftover sandwiches from the business meeting in the snack room.

No hole and gas pressure will do the job of decanting nicely. Give bottle a little shake if/as necessary.

That's 1&2.

Stability?- Mk 1 eyeball tells me that the diameter is same as the the bottle's base. Thus it is just as stable as a bottle standing upright. (Quite possibly with it'a lid off at a party.)

Durability?- so long as it's not a brittle plastic, it ain't likely to break even if thrown at the ground. Worst case the lever might become detached, perhaps resulting in a brief spurt before the INTERNAL spring closes the tap forever.

You'll just trap some air in it. It'll still be flat. Furthermore, as you empty the container, you create more volume for gas to expand into. Gas pressure will push nothing out. For a hint, see my username.
