The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMother Nature treated us to a double feature today
First, as we were leaving Provincetown, on the eastern edge of the continental USA, we were treated to the sight of a rare Cape Cod coyote, who just crossed the street at a leisurely pace in front of us as if he owned the place. You can go a whole year on the Cape and not see one.
Then there were some serious storm clouds rolling through P-town at a fast pace, bringing a downpour and a lightning show, and, just as quickly, a farewell wave to let us know Mother Nature was done for the evening:

I hope you've had a great vacation, and that now your batteries are all charged.

(54,339 posts)We have had a wonderful time, I must say. The only negative is that we have to leave on Saturday.
Back to the real world. Each year, it gets harder and harder to leave here. Maybe some day, we won't.
I'm finally starting to get why some people retire. I always figured I wouldn't even consider it until I turned 85, which my genes say probably won't happen in the first place. But in moments like now, I think to hell with it all, I've paid my dues, let someone else go play James Bond, I just want to relax.
"But you know that when the truth is told
You can get what you want or you can just get old."
Billy Joel got it right with that little verse.

(149,580 posts)I retired early, and I have never regretted it. But my income stream is good, and I am secure.
If you can retire and still be comfortable, then go for it, esp. considering your health history, and your wife's.
You know better than I do how many wonderful things are waiting to be seen in the world...

(54,339 posts)But it wouldn't dry up completely, and I have a little put aside for "the day."
My health history and my wife's are factors, that's for sure.
My trouble is that I'm a little hard-pressed to find a successor, and my outfit would definitely need one.
I could probably find someone trained in the detection of counterfeit money. I could probably also find someone willing to be in a different country every day. I could probably even find someone able to speak French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, German and Russian, and has an EU work permit. The trouble is, I need someone who is all of the above, and the line of applicants is not exactly extending out the door and around the block. I have painted myself into a corner, jobwise. I have all the job security I could ever want, but that is because it is so $§/$§$§/*!! difficult to find someone else who can do my job!

(149,580 posts)I am sorry to hear that.
Tell your boss that s/he will need to find someone, and get the hell out!
Good luck, my dear DFW...

(54,339 posts)And good luck is right! I've been looking for five years. I haven't even had an applicant, much less someone I could laugh out the door!

(54,339 posts)The sky below the rainbow is much lighter than above it. A little difficult to swallow.
Mine definitely wasn't faked--I don't know how to do that stuff!

Me being a dedicated beer drinker,
I liked the symbolism of the beer store pic.
Fake or not.
