I've seen that happen before in Georgia. A driver with a trailer loaded with potatoes had the trailer split in half like that and those potatoes were everywhere. They weren't in bags or crates, either. It looked like they just had a machine or something that just threw them in there.

It's a combination of older equipment and an insanely heavy load that makes that happen. It looks like both the driver in my story and the one in your picture were lucky not to be rolling down the interstate when their trailers gave way.
