I hear people say sometimes, “My picker is broken.”

What they mean is, they tend to pick boyfriends/girlfriends who (euphemism)aren’t good for them (/euphemism).

I know what they mean, but I don’t think that’s an accurate way of describing what’s going on. Somebody told me once, and I think this should be carved on a monument somewhere, “We are comfortable with the familiar, even if it is painful.”

I think that’s why some people (myself included) tend to pick boyfriends/girlfriends who aren’t good for them.

The robot arm on the backup tape carousel is called the "picker", which jams occasionally.
