SHOUT OUT: Horseback riders, especially back country lovers...

doing some research on how far you can travel on horseback in one day in back country like some parts of Idaho, about two hours North of Boise to be specific. It's suppose to be really rugged mountainous country.

Any help at all would be AWESOME!!!

I've spent many days, all day long, out on the trail, but I wasn't tracking distance.

I've done some time with endurance riders that do track distance; the average conditioning ride was about 15 miles. There was plenty of daylight left when we were done.

I have, once, gone a little too far up the mountain and had to ride home in the dark. That was nerve-racking for the horses, for me, and the people I was riding with, imagining cougars and bears in every shadow, and bad footing all the way down.

trained endurance horses can do 100 miles in 24 hours but they can't sustain that for multiple days.
