The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHas anyone else seen something like this: my dog is super sleepy
since about 2 days ago. She is always mellow (Great Dane x Lab x Golden) but today she is sleeping with her head up, like the Sphynx. No sign of fever or physical discomfort. Took a long (but slow) walk this morning. Her left eye seems a little droopy and when I fed her some of my ravioli just now, she takes a bite and kind of rolls her head off toward the right side.
They are doing demolition next door and have ripped out walls and insulation. She loves to sit with her head in the window and she has a variety of allergies so I am thinking this might be related to allergies but it concerns me.
Any similar experiences or thoughts?

(14,549 posts)I'm so nervous I could puke. I have seen something similar in a 13 year old Boxer that had cancer, then a stroke, then seizures.
Trying not to think the worst though. There will be plenty of time to freak out IF we get a diagnosis like that.
Ugh...
She is my sunshine (on the left here):

(14,549 posts)Mellow and sweet. They always sleep a lot so that part is not unusual but the head move has me worried.

She is feeling better and milked about 8 liver treats out of them but I won't rest well until the head twitch goes away.

(54,255 posts)Loss of appetite and lethargy.
Lost a German Shepherd to that.
Not uncommon with horses and large dogs.
The vet will know.

(14,549 posts)The vet found irritation in the eyes and lungs/resp tract which we believe was triggered by the demolition next door. They were ripping out insulation on Wednesday and early Thursday. Lots of other stuff -- all the floors, cabinets, paneling.
I first noticed this on Wednesday. Just the eyes and some lethargy and I assumed it was allergies or irritants from the demo. I washed her muzzle with a warm wash cloth and I washed down the window sill, the window and the floor by the window and kept it more closed so that she would not put her head there when/if they started again. The sled (mega dumpster) left this morning.
But the head twitch thing kind of baffled the vet. He wants to watch it and update on Monday. I asked if could be pain when she swallows (because it happens when eating and then somewhat at random but possibly this is when she is swallowing reflexively; hard to tell). The Vet was neutral on my theory.
I had only the mildest irritation during the demo and her brother shows no signs of anything similar to her, no detectable health issues at all for him. All of us were in the same environment over the past 4 days so it is odd that if is strictly the demo dust only SHE is affected.
If the Vet was thinking 'stroke' then he wasn't saying the word so I am hoping it is just a sore throat but we'll keep watching her while we treat the eyes and give her plenty of food, water and love!
