Does anyone have one of the new-model Mac Minis?

My laptop recently died--logic board went out, and replacing it is about the same price as buying a different computer. After evaluating the way I use the thing, I think it would be best to go with a Mac Mini--cheaper than a laptop and more powerful.

The current-issue Mac Mini doesn't have an optical drive. Would I be better off with the MacBook Air drive, which Apple offers as an optional-purchase item on the Apple Store site, or a third-party drive like the LG? (Note: if I can't boot the machine off the drive it's no good to me.)

My office switched all the computers to Mac Minis. My home PC died and I was in the market for another computer. I loved the Mac Mini so much that I bought one. I love the compactness of it.

I work from home, and the advantage of my MacBook Pro is that I can take it to the coffee shop down the block if I get bored with my four walls.

I've got a 19-inch LCD TV for its monitor and a truck driver's briefcase to haul the system around in. If I've got access to a power outlet, and all the coffee shops in this area are okay with you using theirs, I can go anywhere I want.

But back to the original question: will it boot off a USB DVD burner?
