(53,984 posts)I admire her career savvy, being able to parley her lack of acting range into a career as a deadpan comedian. On the other hand, I think she supports charities with a lot of her money, so no harm = no foul. But no, not beautiful.

Pretty, but not what I would call beautiful...

I've always thought that Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly also fell into the "so pretty she's boring" category.
RudynJack
(1,044 posts)about Cybill, but Ingrid Bergman was stunning, in an unconventional way.
There a few actresses (and fewer actors) who just compel you to look at them on-screen. Bergman, Garbo, Audrey Hepburn... and I would put Cate Blanchett in that category.

(21,046 posts)He was also gorgeous in The Age of Innocence. That was a gorgeous movie, but not much happened. There was voice-over by Joanne Woodward, and the audience laughed at lines like Daniel's character, in voice over, saying things like, "I could go over and push her out the window, and nobody would suspect a thing" referring to murdering his tiny wife, played by Winona Ryder.
This guy, Bruno Lastra, in my favorite movie of all time, The Keeper:The Legend of Omar Khayyam. Filmed in Houston, Texas, and Uzbekistan:

once every decade or two. Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch are two I can think of.

DFW
(54,325 posts)Who is Patricia Clarkson?
(I know, I know. I'll google her!)
And no argument on Sophia Loren: a once-in-a-generation beauty.
Now, when someone starts a thread on beautiful social workers, Mrs. DFW will definitely finish in the top ten, I'll bet!
*on edit: OK, I checked out Patricia Clarkson. She's 7 years younger than my wife and only 5'4" where Mrs. DFW is 5'10," so any resemblance is kind of a stretch.
**second edit--stupid me--I should have scrolled up before posting. Sorrrrrryy! I'm in the final stages of packing after 6 weeks of running around this side of the Atlantic, and have a date with Air Chance in 4½ hours

(44 posts)is Ingrid Bergman. Watch "Casablanca". One commenter said the only unbelievable part of the movie is that Rick (Humphrey Bogart) would let her go away--in reality no man could stand to lose her, even if it meant Hitler won the war.

(16,191 posts)Ingrid Bergman, IMHO, is one of the most beautiful women of the last century. When it comes to Golden Age actresses, Ingrid Bergman and Hedy Lamarr have always ranked as my top two. Bergman for her classic beauty, and Lamarr for her all around brilliance (I think that Bergman was the prettier of the two, but if I got to choose one to have dinner with, it would have been Lamarr).
