Hayao Miyazaki Announces Retirement

http://flavorwire.com/newswire/hayao-miyazaki-announces-retirement

It’s being reported this morning that director Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli and filmmaker behind gorgeous films such as Spirited Away, has announced his retirement from feature filmmaking. The Film Stage indicates Miyazaki revealed the news at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, where he screened his latest project, The Wind Rises. The film is an animated biopic about Jiro Horikoshi, who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II. It hits U.S. theaters on September 28. Twitch Film called it a “stunning, somber work.” We’re devastated to think that one of cinema’s finest directors has called it quits, but we hope his involvement with Studio Ghibli means there are different, short-form works in store for his adoring audience.
