Never went back, not a puff, hasn't been hard to do but there were a lot of failed attempts before that.

I switched from tobacco to electronic devices completely on January 1st, 2012 and haven't had the desire for the old stuff since.

Tried the patch and the gum but I was more addicted to the act of smoking, especially when I'm at the computer. Electronic Cigs really helped me in that regard.

My last cigarette was December 05, 2005.

My dad smoked three packs a day at his peak. He used to say that quitting smoking was easy, he had done it dozens of times. Actually, he quit on election day 1974. He used to say he was going to start smoking again when he turned 80. My brothers and I talked him out of that, he's almost 82 and quit when he was 42. He was 15 when he quit smoking the first time.

He said the real motive to quit were the shortness of breath and the chest pains. He went to his doctor for the symptoms (the doc had been on him for years to quit) and he had some tests that included exhaling through a tube to see how strong his lungs were. The nurse told him couldn't blow out a fuckin' candle. (It was a small town and he had know the nurse for a long time including outside the clinic.)

I will smoke for a year or so, and then quit for a few years. I've been smoking for about a year now, so time to quit again.

I will likely take a few days off DU when I quit, so I have less to rage over. Otherwise, all my posts might be "fuck you," "I hate everything," "global warming is good," "nuke everywhere!"

Going cold turkey is a fucking pain in the ass. I wanted to rip some heads off some days. I am going on over 2 years now as a former smoker. Hang in there. Don't pay big tobacco to kill you.

According to certain information on the web,

To Quit Smoking Forever

"Here is information about dietary additions that can help anyone break the habit, adapted from Michael Lesser's book, The Brain Chemistry Plan:

• Glutamine, 500 mg every 6 hours
• Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, 1 gram six times daily for the first 48 to 72 hours, then tapering off to one gram two or three times a day
• Niacin, or vitamin B3, is an antidepressant. Dr. Lesser suggests one gram six times daily for the first two or three days, tapering off to one to three grams a day.

• After a few days the vitamin C and Niacin may be reduced to one to two grams daily.
• Eat a small high-protein snack every hour while awake for the first two or three days, then eat a single high-protein snack every day for two or three weeks.
• Glutamine can be stopped after two or three weeks.

"Caution: A dose as small as 500 mg of niacin can produce a temporary but uncomfortable flushing sensation. Either work up gradually to the higher amount or use a "no-flush" form. Niacinamide does not cause flushing and may also be effective. Do not use high doses of niacin without a doctor's advice if you have liver disease.
