Is this where I can complain about DHL?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, I just NEED to rant.

I HATE DHL. I've always hated them. I've never had such a difficult time with a company before in my life.

My daughter got a ThinkGeek gift card for her birthday. She chose the wrong shipping option. I didn't know she had ordered (I had told her to let me look over it, but she's 13 and thinks everything I say is a mere suggestion). So, the other day, we had a note on the door that they had tried to deliver the package. There were duties and taxes (I'm in Canada) so they couldn't just leave it at the door. They said they would try to deliver it one more time. So I made sure I was home on Tuesday. It was a hot day and all my windows were open. The dog had to go do her business, so I put her out while I stood on the deck, door wide open, 20 ft from the front door. When I came back in there was a note on the door that they had 'tried' to deliver my package.

Bullshit. There was no knock or doorbell. I'd have heard it. The dog would've barked. WTF? This isn't the first time this has happened, but usually it happens on the first try. There's one time I had to chase the driver down the sidewalk because he gave a mild knock on the door and by the time I got down the stairs, he was nearly gone with my package. So, I KNOW there was no honest attempt to deliver.

The note said I'd have to pick it up but had no address WHERE. So I tried calling. I got stuck in DHL automated phone hell. Seriously, WTF do elderly people who have no knowledge of all this shit deal with this?? While on the phone I went to the website, where it wouldn't let me email anyone or register anything or schedule another delivery or anything. I didn't have a company or an 'authorization' number, so I gave up on the website. After a half hour or so on the phone, of pressing buttons and being redirected back to the beginning, I just started randomly pressing numbers. Finally, 30 min after THAT, I managed to reach a human being. She said if I paid the duties over the phone, she'd made sure my package got delivered, she was sorry about my circumstances....etc. So I paid (and left a complaint as well) and left the receipt and authorization number on my door.

Today, while I was gone, my daughter got a call from the local place. It's not really local - it on the other side of the city - an hour away for me. They are refusing to re-deliver. They say I HAVE to go pick it up. I say this is THEIR fault.

I might go there tomorrow anyway because they have my duty money. I'm going to raise a big stink. What should I say? Advice please! I have an idea, but want to hear DUer opinions.

Did I mention I have NEVER EVER EVER had ANY issues with Canada post and USPS. NEVER. I've had numerous other issues with DHL as well. They suck.

/end rant

Oh, and I told my daughter she owes me gas money for all this, lol. I don't think she'll order without my ok ever again.

I too have heard bad things about DHL. I've read one or two other DHL inspired rants on the net. How can a company like that manage to stay in business?

I do know in Canada they are horrible and I don't know of a single person who has had a good experience with them. Not one. And I've never had an issue with any other service in Canada - UPS, FedEx etc are all fine. I prefer Canada post though. Always get my package with them.

I found the 'no ringing a doorbell' trick is something that is widespread where I live. Lots of pissed off reviews on review sites.

I complained to the shippers. I think they got enough complaints that they stopped using the service.

They offer a USPS and a UPS option also, but my daughter just happened to pick DHL, I have NO idea why, it was the more expensive option. I don't know what she was thinking.

DHL used to woo shippers with lower rates so they made DHL the default shipper or offered free shipping. I, apparently among others, was willing to pay more for shipping just to avoid DHL.

but complain to the on-line merchant that offered DHL services too. Let them know as long as they offer it as even an option you'll never buy anything from them again.

Not sure what your daughter ordered but I bet there's other places that sell it. (Oh wait, THinkGeek does have a lot of cool stuff...but still...let them know you are not a happy customer. They prefer happy customers.)

They do offer other options, but that's a good point - saying I won't buy as long a it's an option. I was thrilled when ThinkGeek finally offered an 'economy' option (aka USPS) for Canada, because I HAD stopped buying there because of DHL but started again when they had their new option. I should tell them that it's a horrible option for us Canadians.

similar problems with Fedex, actually.

I complained to sellers that I would never order from them again if they kept using them as a default shipping agent (I like to choose between UPS and USPS).

I've written to the Corporate Office. No reply.

Anyway, the issue was the same as yours. Someone is here all the time, as we are retired. Many times there would be no delivery, but a note on their site saying that delivery had "been attempted". Bullshit. One time I ordered Christmas gifts for the grandkids in early December. They stayed on the Fedex truck until the day after Christmas (being delivered to a neighbor's house) even though the driver could have dropped them off at that neighbor's house out on the main road at any time if he didn't feel like coming down my road...which hadn't even been snowed in yet at that point. Two weeks that asshole driver ran around with my stuff in his truck!

That's the time I complained to the local office AND Corporate office and got no reply.

So...I guess you could make a complaint and see if you get better results with DHL than I did with Fedex.

I've been lucky with FedEx. But what a shitty experience you had. I'm not holding my breath for any response from DHL. I tried calling today (direct to the local depot) and all there was, was a voicemail from a manager, so I left a message, name and number and still no call back. I will be taking names so I can include it in my letter to corporate, but I'm not really holding my breath. I may post on their facebook page - that seems to get more attention.

I am in the distribution game - we do 6-7 figures with all the big boys, Fed-Ex, Purolator, UPS, etc...

I actually sent an email around the office stating that if anyone, under any circumstances, uses DHL Loomis for ANYTHING, they would be instantly on my shit-list. Thus was my frustration...

They would ROUTINELY take a package that was coming from a town no more than a couple hours away and send it to fricking British Columbia (I am in Ontario, lol) and then back to us. Would make a '2 day' delivery into a 2 week delivery. EVERY FRICKIN TIME.

I called them up after the 2nd time and it was like talking to a wall. "we do not know why this has happened - we'll make sure it never happens again"...lol, happened 3-4 more times and that was enough.

Never seen anything like it.

My .02 cents?

I like Purolator - the damage/shipping cost ratio is the best. They do wreck the odd shipment, but their rates are superior.

Fed-Ex - Most expensive by a long shot - but never any problems.

UPS - sketchy co. that uses some sneaky billing techniques - but they are pervasive and we get stuck with using them. Good for international shipments and the best "next-day" air freight option out there - they never let me down..

Again, just my 0.02 cents.

That was my 'other' bad experience with DHL. I used to buy Gymboree clothes for my kids when they were smaller, and Gymboree used USPS. I always got my package within 2 weeks, even with duties and everything it was always quick. Then Gymboree switched to DHL. Well, holy hell, the first package I ordered through DHL took *8* fucking weeks. It was kind of opposite of you - I was in BC and Gymboree is in California, and DHL was sending the package to Ontario to then distribute around Canada. Not only that, they itemized every piece of clothing, and the country of origin, so I was paying 3-4 times the amount of duties I was with USPS (the package was just counted as 'from the US' instead of each piece of clothing and where it was produced). I contacted Gymboree and refused to use DHL. I used FedEx from then on, and because they calculated duties like USPS did, it ended up being the same price in the end, and I got my package in 2 days. Eventually, after a lengthy complaint letter to Gymboree, they did eventually go back to USPS. But then 2 years later they were back with DHL. Thankfully I live near a store now and don't have to deal with it anymore. That and only my youngest wears Gymboree still.

Before today i would not have agreed with you but please see today's email re their team in India :
'Brother Khupkam,

DHL India are rubbish. The Customs at Mumbai of course do spot checks and they have sent you impossible forms for you to fill in in English.
Today the 7th person from DHL UK suggested that i even ask Argos for numbers from the tablets. I never even unwrapped them!

Their Storage charges at Mumbai of over £60 per day are insulting. They will have to throw them away!
I shall add to comments on a 'Complain to DHL' website.

The latest person claimed to have not heard of DTDC who successfully delivered to you in Dec 2016.

I shall phone their London office tomorrow. Perhaps they deliver to Africa too.

DHL did recommend them in Dec!

Please remind me of the cost of new tablets in Manipur and see my latest update on www.easyBibles.com. This email is copied to many easyBibles teams.

Thank you for starting a CLUSTER.'

SO, THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLAIN - MAY DHL MEND THEIR WAYS IN LONDON AND MUMBAI
