20. All that and the ability to organize a political demonstration

Portland, with half the population of the Twin Cities metro area, puts on much bigger and more effective demonstrations and political events than either Minneapolis or St. Paul. Portland could get 30,000 people, about 10% of the population, out for all kinds of events.

Saturday's anti-war demonstration is going to be at Lake and Hiawatha??? Then there was the one on 24th and Franklin a few years ago????

Then there was the time I was invited to attend an anti-war demonstration, and it went entirely on back streets.

I haven't participated since the first couple of years I was here, because the organizers act as if they're thinking, "Oh no, someone might see us." Then every group has to have its chance to harangue the crowd and tell the participants what they already know. Here, silly me, I thought the point of a demonstration was to be visible.

Huge and lively political actions are one of the things I miss about Portland.

where I grew up -

sadly, has not a lot of anything (it is a dying blue collar town with all kinds of problems)

where we live now -

progressives
snow and ice
ability to walk to stores, cafes, etc (it is a long way from anything - cars a must)
interesting food (we are in fast food/strip mall hell)
character - a nice downtown with some age, an interesting mix of people of all sorts, the arts in general (music, art, etc)

Good paying jobs with benefits.
Political balance (too many democrats, which can sometimes be a bad thing).

I live in a small town northwest of New Haven, CT.

I think it would be a lot of fun to do that but, I am not sure how people are are receptive to it. It means
downloading a program, and some people freak out over that.. not sure what they are getting into. Its not difficult but it might confuse some as to what they can do. When I first joined IMVU five years ago, it took me three days just to get oriented, and was able to learn what to do, where you could go.

I know for sure some people might not want to download the program.. so there is that. I have asked many of my friends to join me on IMVU but once they found out they had to down load a program they got skittish. I guess we shall see, ne?
