I have actually very little grey hair for a man my age, and it probably makes me look distinguished. I think I'll keep it natural for now. Once you start dyeing, you probable have to keep it up.

(12,132 posts)Made an ID badge holder for my wife. Dyed it saddle tan. I don't foresee dying my hair - I've kinda been looking forward to some salt and pepper.

(72,300 posts)Like a fool I wanted to be blonder at the age of 17.
That started a lifetime of color changes. My hair was strawberry blond way back then.
I'm taking a break from the bottle for a while. I have lots of shades grey coming in nicely.

(2,208 posts)...but I'm not afraid of being dyed.
When you're dyed, you're dyed.
But dyeing can be ugly and painful and take a long time.
I want it to go fast.
Once I'm dyed, no problem...
(see what I did there?)

(22,845 posts)I do it every 3 or 4 months. It's messy as hell -- great green globs of goo smeared all over the scalp and hair. Mud pies! I cover it with a cheap clear plastic shower cap and let it soak in for a couple of hours, then rinse it out.
Unfortunately today I was also trying to see if it would darken my eyebrows (no such luck) so I looked really bizarre. I was scrubbing a bathtub when somebody rang the doorbell. The dogs immediately started howling like little wolves. I had to yell over them, "Can't come to the door" and they left. That person doesn't know how lucky he or she was, because I looked like a cross between a space alien and a bag lady.
Now that it's done and dry, I think the result looks fine.

(8,646 posts)but not to hide grey. At 38, I still can count my greys on 2 hands. I like to have colorful hair, although currently I'm back to a color that's close to my natural color, as I had a major dye disaster last year (at a salon, no less. I never screwed my own hair up, instead I had to pay someone to fuck it up that bad) and am trying to get my hair healthy again. That said, if I was a man, I'd probably not bother. Unless I wanted to go colorful.
