LYRICS:
The Sermon
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Mickey Hart, Ben Yonas, Dave Schools, Andre Pessis
A new Hunter/Hart song introduced by the Mickey Hart Band in 2013.
Beyond the blue horizon
Down the Old Plank Road
Or down the ways a bit I can
Set down my heavy load
I do believe what I believe
Out standing in the rain
That if I ask, I shall receive
A ticket on that train
I do believe
I do believe
To give is to receive
I do believe
Is that train bound for glory
Or some kind of rendevous
With all my long-gone partners
I can't say, no more can you
Or does it roll to darkness
Down some promentory grade
I got my hopes, and you got yours
That love will never fade
I do believe
I do believe
To give is to receive
I do believe
Chorus of the bells come
Winging through the breeze
Knocked the unbeliever
Down upon his knees
Lifted the opressed to
To a land above the trees
Of peace and sweet felicity
As pleasant as you please
I do believe
I shall receive
Everything I need
I do believe
Haul off your overcoat (note 1)
Roll up your sleeve
Jordan is a hard road to travel
Yes I do believe
Haul off your overcoat
And roll up your sleeve
Jordan is a hard road to travel
Yes I do believe
I do believe
I do believe
To give is to receive
I do believe
Teach me how to do to others
As I would be done
Right down to the finish line
And still have time for fun
To clothe the ragged, feed the poor
And all that high-tone jazz
As though my life depended on
Till I found out that it has
I do believe
I do believe
To give is to receive
I do believe
I do believe
I do believe
To give is to receive
I do believe

(15,741 posts)He's got a 10 piece band, plays about 1/2 dead tunes and then stuff like this!!!
His album just came out, and personally, I'm hoping The Sermon can somehow worm it's way into mainstream radio play.
Anyway, he also just had his 70th birthday and still plays and has as much fun as ever on stage.

(2,952 posts)Kind of a cowboy junkies meets hole vibe going on....IMHO of course!
I really love that band - ALL their songs have a really cool vibe to them.
The "first" album was my favorite. Sadly it's so rare that there no mp3 'previews' around but you can pick up a cd really cheap!

Oh, and the singer and guitarist are really nice people - have talked to both of them and very cool.

Ordinary rakes and push brooms are inexpensive and the noise they make isn't nearly so irritating.
