hope all my colorado peeps are safe
it's been raining since monday and there is really bad flooding along a good length of the state right now. boulder and colorado springs have been hit really hard, fresh burn areas down in the springs and one from three years ago outside boulder. we had a huge fire west of town last summer and it's getting gnarly up there, too.
part of the highway up to estes park washed away. there are kids from town up there on their two-night camping trip and there is no way for them to get home because the other highway out of town is also closed. there are also kids up near where the fire was last summer and there's no way for them to get down, either.
i'm up in the northern part of the state and a reservoir northwest of town is about to spill over, the bridges over the river are closed, roads intersecting the river are closed and there are pre-evac notices in the place. the river is about a mile and a half from me, give or take. i'm not particularly worried right now, but we live in a garden level and i won't tell you i'm not a little bit concerned.
the rain just keeps coming. it stops a bit in the afternoon, but it's seemed relentless. four inches of rain since monday. some of you may scoff, but we only average 14 inches of precipitation a year. they're call it a hundred year flood. we had one of those in 97 and big thompson had theirs in 76.
check in when you get a chance, guys. i know there are some of you out there.
