It was disconcerting enough to find a disheveled old man shuffling up my driveway at 7 in the morning (the homeless in San Jose are generally found downtown, in a park next to downtown, or in any of several dry creek beds).

But then he yelled "You f-----n' n----r!" to my 100% Caucasian self!

I've been called lots of things in my day, but never the N-word!
