Friends don't send each other chain letters.

Thankfully, it doesn't happen often. But when it does, it just aggravates the piss out of me. This latest one used testimonials of people who did not read "the poem" or did not open the email and within weeks, died a painful death. I jumped to the bottom of the email to read the fucking poem and what it said was that old friends should stay in touch because you never know when you're going to get an email from someone telling you that they're dead and no longer around.

And, of course, it says that something terrible will happen to you if you delete the poem!

Whatever happened to writing an email to someone just to say hello, instead of sending this crap?

Maybe we can start a chain letter proxy business and charge people a fee for dummy addresses so they can have somewhere to send the required five letters and at the same time, put an end to the chain?

I thought that ended when people realized Bill Gates wasn't going to build a spaceship to forward messages to the angels, or whatever that crap was. I haven't seen one of those in years.

I know what she was trying to do. Our relationship became strained last election because she made derogatory comments about Obama and I made it clear that we should talk about something else. Then I got caught up in house projects that didn't make me as available as I have been for her in the past, and I think she misunderstood when I was jumping up to meet with her when she was in town. I have sent plenty of comments through Facebook and cards for special occasions to let her know I'm available now, and all I got was a stupid chain letter.

I guess I'll know soon enough if I was jinxed.
