When anal is the way to go

Isn't it always?

Get your minds out of the gutter, people. We're talking about alarm clocks.

It seems like a good idea.

But how many people make sure to set a back-up alarm clock (one that does not run on electricity) when going to bed on a stormy night?

Mine has a 9V battery, so the clock keeps working when there's a power outage. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

Seems a lot more sensible--and economical--than having to buy two alarm clocks.

where the column originated.

Oh, by the way, he meant anal as in "anal-retentive".

On the other hand, if the power is out, I can't make coffee. So don't wake me up.

(Yes, I know there are other ways to heat water. All of them involve work)

I barely got out a couple times a year with my "adult" girlfriends and to ensure I would not be late when they picked me up I had both battery alarm clocks set in case the batteries of one pooped out before dawn.
But I think this often goes back to almost childhood as it did for me. It was up to me to get myself off to school. No one ever woke me up. This put into my mind to make sure that no clock was ever going to hold me up and that I would never expect others to wake me up.
