But, doesn't this leave it open for a return of Dexter when Harrison gets in trouble when he gets older?

(18,615 posts)I figured Oliver was going to take over as the new Dexter.

(46,676 posts)Quite a bit gets said about John Lithgow's performance in Season four (?), but that was the season everything began to go South for Dexter. His reasoning was way off since there were opportunities to let the man die before the story got to the Rita arc.
Obviously, he gets off on killing people and there should be consequences for that. But as I see the ending, spending time on a deserted Island will give him time to think. If he could have only curtailed his desires and had been satisfied in turning over evidence to the police, this could have been a very different story.
So, what if age has that affect on him, and one day he realizes that Harry sold him out when he didn't take into account that Dexter could one day feel and change?
If there was a return to the series in ten years, let's say, it would have to take place in a different setting than Miami.
What I liked the most about Dexter was the quirky characters. His sister, Masuka and, also, the off-beat humor. I disagree with the critics that expected it to go dark, like Breaking Bad. I love BB, but it's strives to hit drama head on. Where Dexter was a far more creative storyline. It had to be to attract the attention of women.

(17,742 posts)By the middle of the episode I was just hoping it would end soon because of how horrible that episode was, in all respects.
A huge WTF. So many things that just didn't make sense.
Blah.
I was hoping it would somehow end with a shootout with Hannah, with Harrison as a witness, so that the final scene mirrored Dexter's genesis. But no, it was stupid instead.
Oh well.

(36,818 posts)If Dexter had been caught or killed it would have been highly predictable. I would have preferred Vogel to be revealed as a killer psychopath who manipulates others to satisfy her killing urges by doing the deed for her. Then they could have spawned countless spinoffs for her proteges (which they may do anyway but it will be less dramatic).
I don't think we've seen the last of Dexter. There will either be another season or movies will follow.

(46,676 posts)I know men would have wanted it more bloody, but Dexter was injected into our hearts for a totally other reason.
If there is a spin-off or another season, it really needs fresh writers who can keep the level of witty banter and quirky situations at a very high level.
I'm not interested in the blood and gore as much as I am for the unexpected zany situations. Dexter, even as a serial killer, must grow or die. Which means that the next time we see him, he needs to show that he learned something. I would like to see him smarter, and more willing to compromise, as a hunter.

(9,213 posts)Who cares if it would have been too predictable for Dexter to get caught or killed at the end....the reason it was too predictable is because based on a fairly logical viewpoint those two endings made the most sense. Not that he would give his child to another serial killer and have the protagonist of the story die and Dexter just move on with his life.
We will never see more Dexter. Even if he's still alive the drove all the nails in the coffin of the Dexter story. Thank god too, it was really getting lame. I don't know how they could not come up with new GOOD ideas for this show but so be it, that's Hollywood these days.
