It really made an impression on me. Many times over the years I have thought about this picture and how the little boy was so grateful for a thing that I always took for granted.

A similar thing was an article I read about a child who was unable to go outside due to some horrible medical condition (it might have been one of those "bubble" situations -- I forget the specifics). The quote I recall was: "His biggest ambition is to walk on grass." It really humbled me, thinking about lives such as those.

To get a tad sappy, almost life changing. Here I am, mildly kvetching about not having an icemaker in a previous Lounge thread, and this little boy is overjoyed about new shoes.

Rapidly puts things into perspective and makes you profoundly grateful. First world problems and all that.
