Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just officiated at the wedding of my two best girl-friends!
They have been together for 19 years.. and it has been truly exciting to watch their wedding experience unfold especially after it had been forbidden to them for so long. Their process was wonderful to see- from the initial joy at hearing of the SCOTUS decision to the realization that they could actually do this. Then there were the questions, the ponderings, the weighing of all factors- Did they really want to marry? What did marriage truly mean for them? Did they need a piece of paper after all these years?
But soon, after much soul searching, the idea of marriage came to mean far more to them than just "having a piece of paper" and so this life changing experience culminated on this beautiful day with a heartfelt, historical, loving and blessed wedding ceremony.
The right to marry is something that many of us take for granted even though it has been denied to so many for so long. Their wedding today was all the more precious because it had been such a long time coming.
I will never forget it.
This was also my first time to officiate at a wedding - what an honor to be the one to marry them!
