So I was absolutely obsessed with the show and I'm sad in a way that it's over, but glad as well since I don't have to think about how it ends.
Anyone that has watched the show knows there are elements of classical and ancient literature/plays work, as well as Westerns that have inspired Vince Gilligan's work. I'm already aware of other good TV shows I may like (I've already seen the Wire and Sopranos) and I'm thinking the Shield might one worth watching in the future (after a break).
But since I'm admittedly not as well versed in the classics (I really should go read some Shakespeare and Greek plays). Any particular suggestions?
And the suggestions can be broad. I loved the tension and character development in BB. So I'm all ears. I'll eventually save the suggestions and maybe get on Amazon or something...

(102,225 posts)I don't watch a lot of shows, but I do like a few... But thinking of them now, I cringe at putting them in the same category as BB. It really was phenomenal.
That said, I do like several AMC shows enough to regularly watch--the Walking Dead, Mad Men, Hell on Wheels...
Homeland on Showtime...
Game of Thrones on HBO
Justified on FX (top rate)
The Good Wife on CBS
House of Cards on Netflix
I probably am leaving out something... seems like I should be...
Even though the new season is starting, I do feel a little empty now that Breaking Bad is done...sigh...
For...
Homeland
The Good Wife

Some shows I am watching now that I really like that are still producing new episodes:
- Strike Back (Cinemax)
- Sons Of Anarchy (FX)
- Archer (FX)
- Workaholics (Comedy Central)
- It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX)
- Boardwalk Empire (HBO)
- Person Of Interest (CBS)
A HERETIC I AM
(24,365 posts)which was a short-lived, single season Sci-Fi series that was followed by a movie called "Serenity".
A Firefly is a type of spaceship in the series and Serenity was the name of the ship.
It was interesting, funny at times, but overall, very well done.
If you have Netflix you should be able to stream it. Watch the series first, then the movie, as the movie takes up where the last episode leaves off and ties up several loose ends.

(100,063 posts)And the ending, oh god don't get me started.
But that said - season 4 of the show was flat out brilliant. John Lithgow made one of the creepiest villains of all time, and the ending is as shocking as the beginning. Too bad the rest of the series (seasons 5 - 8) after that couldn't live up to that work of genius.

Hank suggests handing the money to the police, but is persuaded not to by Jacob and Lou. Hank's condition is that he keep the money safe at his house and no one spends anything until winter ends and everyone moves away when they divvy up the cash. All agree to keep the discovery a secret.

It's the same concept of the morally downward spiral, but in this story, it's not quickened by greed but by trying to keep the secret about the fortune they had already gained.

Robert Sabbag's novel, "Snow Blind", a fun, informative thriller about a middle-aged man
who takes up coke smuggling after not doing much more than supplying pot to friends so
he could smoke for free.

I second the recommendation for Tom Waits; music. He writes and sings his songs like
Charles Bukowski wrote his poems. I recommend starting with "Nighthawks at the Diner".
I think the full album is on YouTube.

Shakespeare is meant to be viewed. Reading is good, but doesn't give the full experience. So,
McKellen's Richard III
Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus
Branagh's Henry V. Olivier's version is also worth a viewing
For a bit of comedy, Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing
TV series: Alec Guinness' Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People
/on edit/ Surprised this one hasn't been mention: The West Wing. It falls off after the fourth season, but the first few years, some of the best acting and writing ever.
