Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAs I've mentioned, my malaria prophylaxis ends with a shutdown. A poll
I'm off this week anyways because it's festival season here.
So, since I'll need a new malaria prophylaxis regime, and the only one I know is gin & tonic,

(8,155 posts)It had too many nasty side effects and I was stupid. Fortunately I didn't get malaria.
Anyway, I say start drinking now.

(53,339 posts)How many Irishmen do you know who've come down with malaria? None? I rest my case.

(135,425 posts)Put in on your skin, don't drink it w/the gin!
My Mom was an Avon Lady in the '60s, but somehow that selling point never occurred to her. You're a GENIUS! When your phone rings, it may be "Avon Calling."

(56,582 posts)Trivia: the gin & tonic is the only drink where the alcohol was added to hide the taste of the mixer.

(135,425 posts)in-law who swears by that stuff!
Swears by it!!
I never asked if it actually made his skin so soft, but he says it keeps the bugs away!

(12,665 posts)I bet you 8 out of 10 tackle boxes have a fifteen year old bottle of SSS.
I don't think you can tell the softness of their skin due to all the calluses, fishhook snarls, teeth bites. etc.
Damn, I miss fishing with my dad! Thanks for the memories, MADem.

(25,704 posts)Kinda like putting away the whites. However, seeing how this is a governmental emergency, exceptions will be made.
I like mine large, lots of ice, lots of lime and weak. That way you can keep drinking them all day.

Depending on how long this lasts you could try a new web recipe every day if you can last that long.

(20,176 posts)is several times the amount in a 2L bottle of tonic. I hope you've got that gin by the 55gal. drum.
You need to find a cinchona tree, ideally Cinchona pubescens. The English imported them from South America to Europe and anywhere they conquered in large numbers because the bark contains a number of quinones used to treat malaria.
The vast majority of anti-malarials on the market are still extracted from cinchona bark (lab-synthesis is possible but more expensive, albeit yielding higher-purity quinones)...as is the quinine in homemade tonic water. Commercial tonic never contains more than negligible amounts for flavoring and to make it officially "tonic water" as quinine has a number of adverse drug interactions.

Anyways.
