Anyone have it? I've been sweating at night and these circular things showed up.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)some teammates having it on my college wrestling team. It's contagious, so you should get it taken care of right away. If the lesions are on your body and not your head, it is likely that a topical treatment will work, but the ointment is a prescription so you have to see a doctor (dermotologist). Ringworm is caused by a fungus.

(39,961 posts)I won't even speculate.

(7,720 posts)ointment will take care of it. I would get a prescription. These things can occur through something as simple as a handshake. My kids were exposed to it in elementary school. Have you been wrestling with any 5th graders lately? That's a joke, but our children are often more exposed to these things than are adults.

(18,705 posts)I used to have a scar from it.
I have no idea what causes it, a real worm.
Aristus
(66,286 posts)The ring shape is due to what's called the fungus's annular presentation on the skin.
There are no worms at all.
A topical antifungal should take care of it...

(4,033 posts)all you need is Lotrimin or any anti-fungal cream. Put it on in the morning and before bed. Make sure you keep the area dry. It should be about 5-7 days before it's cleared up.

(39,961 posts)It has plagued me, and if that's where I contracted it, I feel much better. It's apparently another thing you get in the locker room if you aren't scrupulously clean.
Thank you!

(15,220 posts)Lotrimin (or any generic) and a little patience.

(28,876 posts)...or something other than ringworm. Don't want to alarm you, but a rash and night sweats is something that should get checked out.

(39,961 posts)and Applegrove probably has it right. It was from the horse.
applegrove
(118,492 posts)Don't remember sweating.
Damn, it could have been from a horse, too.
Thanks Applegrove I was trying to pin down the source, but it was probably because I went riding!
I'm relieved, actually!
It's all over the back of my thighs.

(39,961 posts)I think I've pinned it down to the stable I went to and went riding. Back of my thighs.

(39,961 posts)I just told you I have ringworm and I am freaked out about it, and you do a come on?
I know I'm pretty sexy, but damn.

(1,328 posts)back in the 90's it wasn't. It was Pityriasis Rosea, something little kids get but I was in my 50's. Took a while to heal and the only treatment my dr. gave me was calamine lotion.

(39,961 posts)Applegrove told me she got it from that, and mine is on the back of my thighs.
Way to ruin one of my favorite activities (horseback riding) but at least I know where it came from.
Won't go to that stable again!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but because it is all over the backs of my thighs, that is the origin.
Good grief. Won't go to that stable again.

(6,996 posts)They said that I got it at the movie theater because I would always sit very low with my head on the back of the seat where some people had been putting their feet from behind.
I don't remember much about the symptoms but a lot about the treatments. My head was shaved and then my Mom had to use adhesive tape pressed on my scalp and then ripped off along with any stray hairs that were still there.
Not allowed to go to school, so for an entire term I was tutored at home.
Had to wear a skull cap after Mom rubbed the various salves and ointments on.
Trips to a clinic for Ultra-violet lamp treatments .
An ordeal to be sure.
