Spoiler: Did Rachel Maddow just leak the Simpsons character who is supposed to die?

Rachel is going to be a guest voice on this coming Sunday's episode of the Simpsons. Yay!

She showed a clip of her appearance in which she's trading barbs with old aquaintance Kent Brockan. Kent indicates they're attending the funeral of "Chip".

I did a quick search of Simpsons characters and couldn't find a "Chip".

However, "Chip" is used as a nickname for "Charles". There is a Charles...better known as Charles Montgomery "Monty" Burns.

???

But not for a while as she recorded a lot of upcoming work before she passed away.

Doesn't that mean that they have to kill her off? Or do they just announce that Mrs. Krabappel has retired, divocred Ned Flanders, moved to Florida and is collecting a pension.

I could see them doing a long-term bit with Ned where all his wives keep dying, and make it into a running gag, like Ross and all his divorces on Friends (they could also tell us that Ned's Vegas wife has since died).

As for the character, she will be retired but no word on how that happens as of yet. The voice characterizations are done in advance and Ms. Wallace recorded material that will be used this season and possibly at the beginning of next season.

I doubt they rewrote the episode. It's easier just to change the chalkboard.

made me think you may be Richard Tribou based on your guess in the OP...lol

"Well an Internet search did not reveal any character on "The Simpsons" named Chip. But Chip could be short for Charles. And that could mean the death of one C. Montgomery Burns."
