A little indulgence. I always was fascinated by crabs and other crustaceans. So, I got a pair of these guys:

Of course, the habitat setup far outweighs the cost of the pets themselves.

(22,000 posts)Just don't put them in your pants. They may spread.

(25,348 posts)I mean, I didn't expect them to jump hurtles or anything ...just show themselves...
Couldn't even see them.
OTOH, who doesn't love a pet that you can always boil up with some Old Bay and eat dipped in melted butter.

On second thought, Amin might just join you for dinner. Hermit crabs are supposed to be sociable.
To Amin sociable means, "Yum, I loves me some crab meat!" So he no longer gets to have crab friends come over for a visit.

(6,581 posts)I had a couple of those years ago, but never that large. He's really big.

(2,815 posts)It's getting harder to find him shells that he likes that are big enough. He's so big that he spends 3 to 4 months moulting.
I don't know why he's survived longer than my other Hermit crabs. I find them kind of creepy when they change shells and you see what it looks like on the hidden end.

(6,581 posts)Just nature, but it is kind of creepy looking. How long have you had him?
mockmonkey
(2,815 posts)I'm thinking he might be 8 or 9 years old, maybe older. We've had other Hermit crabs throughout the years so it all gets a bit fuzzy. He's outlived them all.

(1,805 posts)we could get lobsters on the beach. I'm not making this up, but they actually squeal with a creepy noise when she would boil them. Ugh! Still can't eat them.
