If you, like all sci-fi dorks of a certain age, remember fondly Comedy Central's Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathons on Thanksgiving but have been feeling a bit at a loss since 1997 (when the show left the network for the Sci Fi Channel), buck up. Joel Hodgson is overseeing the return of Turkey Day this year on the Internet.
For the show's 25th anniversary, Hodgson will host and choose the movies for a brand-new, six-film marathon. Fans will be able to hit up MST3KTurkeyDay.com on Thanksgiving to watch the movies, which Hodgson will choose by your suggestions via his Twitter account, @JoelGHodgson.
When I started doing Cinematic Titanic six years ago and we started doing live shows, thats when I really met these people who love Mystery Science Theater, Hodgson told Entertainment Weekly. Id hear all these stories about Turkey Day. People would say, Yeah, we still watch Mystery Science Theater on Thanksgiving. Its a tradition, like the Lions playing. I was kind of amazed that it was in peoples lives like that.
The glorious, campy, awful fun will begin at noon Eastern on Nov. 28. We suggest a repeat showing of Space Mutiny, if for no other reason than all the names they call David Ryder. Sure, it was a Mike Nelson episode, but all 198 episodes are fair game. Don't recall it? Watch it below and remember everything.
