On a walk back from the local corner store I saw a furry thing out of the corner of my eye near my feet. It was under a downspout near some grass by the sidewalk and at first I thought it must have been a stuffed animal some kid dropped. But once I nudged it around with my foot a bit I saw it was a squirrel. I was shocked cause the guy was 100% intact and looked perfectly fine except of course it was dead. Usually when you see dead squirrels or birds only bits are left or they have been squashed by a car. It must have just died not long ago. Poor thing.
Don't worry I didn't touch it washed up thoroughly when I got home.

(4,465 posts)He'd been hanging out in my yard since early Spring killing chipmunks which I was eternally grateful for and impressed as hell by his skill- I'd never seen a cat do that before.
He was beautiful, a big fluffy black and white cat with some orange spots and big green eyes. He wore a leopard print collar and was just the fiercest little thing. I never tried to pet him because truth be told I've never had a cat and I'm kind of afraid of them. But I liked having him in my yard and even my dog didn't mind him.
Unfortunately when I came across him in the woods he wasn't intact. He was lying on his back with his head turned to the side and his little paws were by his ears as if he were just asleep but...the bottom half of his body was skinned as if something had been gnawing on it moments before I got there.
I've seen a lot of dead animals in the woods but this was almost like seeing my own pet dead. I was pretty upset about it.

(32,080 posts)It was up near the garage, and didn't look like it was hit by a car. No signs of trauma or disease, so who knows what happened to it. I took a scoop and put it back a scrubby area, where Nature could recycle it.

(10,418 posts)It was laying there in the middle of the trucking yard like it just dropped dead right there. It was just like the one in your photo. I had a shovel on my truck and I used it to put it off to the side in some brush.
