But I'm always down and depressed about life so sometimes it's nice to try. Though more often than not it makes me feel worse. Most of the sentiment certainly is born of empty consumerism.

First is my birthday and second is New Years Eve/Day. I love to cook and I don't even mind the cleanup afterwards so Thanksgiving works for me. Xmas, on the other hand, I could completely do without.

I know it wasn't what is now Canada, but it was an English settlement at the time there were not two different countries.

It's almost a PTSD thing.

Worst "holiday" of my life...

My crazy grandma made Thanksgiving intolerable, I drove a long ways back to my university apartment before the turkey was served, my girlfriend's girlfriend tried to kill herself in my bathtub, the Jehovah's Witnesses later stopped by to "save" us lonely students who were not home for Thanksgiving weekend and then I was in a car wreck.

Or maybe it's the time my mom told everyone Christmas was a pagan holiday, she would not be participating, and made my other grandma cry.

One thing I respect about my crazy grandma, she could handle any upset without capsizing, even when she was the cause.. Up until the day she died she was always her crazy bag-lady-with-a-good-pension self.

but this year the Christmas holiday season seems to have started on Hallowe'en!

edit: I also understand that Canadians living near enough to the U.S. border have been known to cross over to partake of our "Black Friday" madness, even though it isn't a holiday there!

If you wanted to. Make a turkey and stuffing. Invite loved ones over. Drink beer, watch football, over-eat

oh yeah.... and be thankful for something.
