Mostly cuz he's a surfing nut. I've heard the most amazing stories from surfers who've indulged their passion in that area!

plus it's not quite so cold down there (relatively speaking, of course). I said this pic was surfing the bore tide, but checking back with the Facebook post, the surfer said, no, it wasn't Turnagain Arm but "the end of the road," which I would assume is probably Seward, out where Resurrection Bay meets the Gulf of Alaska. There aren't usually breakers like this in Homer, the "other" end of the road.
